Marc's very laid back and willing to talk you through anything. He's been working on my z4 for 2 years and I trust him.

Just want to double up on recommending Dick's Auto Body in Somerville. A little more expensive than others, but seem to have a genuine desire to do things properly. Very transparent and willing to explain all processes. They keep you in the loop every step of the way so you can make educated decisions.

On the other hand, stay away from Allston Collision Center in Allston. It took four visits and a lawsuit to finally get a barely acceptable repair. They used epoxy to hold my bumper to the brackets, foglights to the bumper, and my corner lamp to the headlight. There's still overspray on my hood and they broke the tabs on my headlight (trying to get the epoxy back off), but I'm just tired of dealing with them.

if you own an older model it can be hard to find a place to take it. i didn't see it here but louie's on rt 1 in peabody does excellent work for a very fair price. i used them last year for the 6 and once prior for my 735i and was happy both times
also advanced technologies in gloucester! lee is a magician when it comes to anything german.

I have a feeling Lenny from Landshark/ Natick, MA would be really good for older model BMWs. He works specifically on BMWs only and has done for a very long time.

Also took my Roadster to GPS and I thought they were excellent. First time I showed up they showed me around their garage, showed me some of the work they do and were fair with their pricing.

Hey all, I'm out of Haverhill, MA. Does anyone know of a decent shop that can properly repair/service BMW's nearby or am I pretty much relegated to those listed in this thread? I've checked, but haven't found any within arms reach. At the moment my only alternative is Tulley BMW in Nashua, NH. This may sound weird, but if I can't confirm a mechanic's experience with Bimmer's either through documentation or their peers mouths they aren't touching my car.

Schneller out of Newbury is likely closest. Generally considered one of the top 4 BMW specific indies in MA.

Check German Autosport in Amesbury, ACE Performance in Tewksbury or Turner in Amesbury. There are several that are local to you.

We should also give props to Alvin and his staff at Import Auto Werks in Braintree. He was the head mechanic at BMW of Norwell until he opened up his own shop. Great rates, very willing to work with DIY'ers, big supporter of Boston's BMWCCA chapter, and knows BMWs backwards and forwards.

I ended up going to Schneller's and had my rear brakes done. Mike Morris and his mechanic Brian were very professional and they're definately good at what they do. However, I did have them quote a mechatronic sleeve leak job and his quote was just a tad bit higher in comparison to Turner Motorsport a few miles away. By the way, Marco at TMS is the shizz. The man posesses a great attitude and is very knowledgeable. That's not to say that Schneller's is no good, they're great guys, just saying that it's best to shop around for the best price as well as good work. I'm for sure gonna be bouncing between these two indies for maintenance and repair it all comes down to $$$.

Ed had a heart attack a little over a week ago and passed away. He was a customer and friend of mine. He was a good tech and I miss talking to him everyday and laughing at his crazy stories. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I thought you should know.

I have to say, this is a great shop too. Baer and his staff are top notch

We are fortunate in Boston to have a half dozen excellent indies...most locations have 1 or two (if any!)

Just had my VANOS and timing chain guides done at Import by Alvin, great guys over there and very willing to explain things in detail as well as provide you his insight on what should be done in shop and what he thinks I should just do myself in order to save money!

So I requested a quote (labor only) over email from both ACE and BPG for valve cover gaskets and upper timing case gaskets job.
Here are my initial impressions that I thought I should share.

ACE (Baer's) email back was much more personal and I felt he took his time to answer my questions and provided recommendations based on what I was asking about. I thought the pricing was also very reasonable, roughly $540 and that includes Vanos seals which he brought up himself.

BPG, on the other hand, simply answered my questions and gave me a quote of approx. $1000! Seriously?! That's a huge difference in pricing from the $540 from ACE.

Needless to say I am not impressed with BPG and it is obvious where I will be taking my business.
