new alarm key fob, no reset button on car unit

Help, i'm clueless how to reset my new key fob. I did search. Nothing i've found match the unit I have, except a few threads with dead-ends.

Got the one for the correct model for my car. part number 82111467015, FCCID A269ZUA071

I was hopping that instructions would be "1. put chip on car unit, 2. turn key, 3. press button 10sec.. 4. done" but When I opened my car unit under the back seat, FCCID A269ZUA086 i found two things that no guide mentioned:

    1. already had a chip there (with a serial label on back that matches the serial on the unit)
    2. no reset button of any kind.

So, should I use any of the dip switchs instead of the reset button?

    What i tried already:
    - putting the new chip there any way. turn the key, 1min. put the chip back into fob. Nothing
    - Put the existing car unit chip on the new fob. Nothing.

Here's the key fob part number 82111467015, FCCID A269ZUA071

The car unit "BMW prewired - G.B. Detector" FCCID A269ZUA086

On the back of the unit there's one chip on a spot marked "FUSE ROM" and 4 dip switchs:
    - Sens. Cancel [ ON, OFF]
    - Beep [ OFF, ON ]
    - G.B. Sensor [ LOW, NORMAL ]
    - N.C [ nothing mentioned for values ]
pic with chip removed to show "FUSE ROM" label

EDIT: also noticed that on the wiring that goes to the unit, the yellow cable is not conected all the way. it has a plastic jumper in the middle of it and two connectors that look like a fuse connector, but with no fuse.

Now i'm just wasting time. If anyone interested, here's the guts of the unit.

has an Apine chip 5IT93835F02 ... maybe that I can be 1, not sure

When I programmed my remote I just used the chip that was in the security system box already. Worked great. Did not work great when I tried programming it with the chip that came with the new remote.

It can take a few tries and a lot of trial and error before you get it to work. Unless there is something wrong with the unit which in that case is a whole different story.

If I'm not mistaken, that's the receiver for the single-button remote, which requires a chip in the remote and in the receiver. Three-button isn't going to work with that unit.

Ouch, that's what i feared most.

Any idea of the one button remote i have to use? Or should I just give up and use an after-market?

Anyone want that 3-button remote for $90 (shipping included if it goes via USPS flat rate envelope)

I paid $102+tax and will loose %10 if I return to rmeuropean... so it can be your gain.

No but I'll take a look tomorrow since my back seat is out of the car anyway.

    Thanks! that did the trick.

After putting the 10A Fuse in, i simply put the original chip in the remote and that was it. I was able to use the 1st button to lock/unlock the car (from pretty far away) but not arm/disarm the alarm, or, what I wanted most, close the windows (the car has the relays for that, according to someone that claims to understand)

I figure that after powering up, the alarm programs itself with whatever chip is in there. So removing the chip while it's "hot" will not make it loose the code. I didn't try to "boot" it with the blank chip from the new remote to confirm that theory.

Would be interesting to 'flash' two chips from one alarm unit that has the hability to flash chips and then use a pair on this unit...

I'm reviving this thread because I have the exact same alarm/remote setup as gcb, but I'm unable to get the alarm/keyless to work. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

    Here's the rundown:

    - 88 635csi auto US spec
    - BMW prewired alarm model # 88 88 1 600 204, FCC ID # A269ZUA086
    - New BMW alarm remote model # 88 88 1 600 292, FCC ID # A269ZUA071
    - Fuse for "brain" is still good.
    - Checked the unit with a multimeter and it's getting power
    - Checked to ensure led indicator and glass break sensor are connected
    - I see no signs of a hood switch

The led on the dash does not light up. I put the chip from the remote in the brain and vis versa. A chip has to be present in the brain to work (as some sort of fuse). I tried the 2 button programming steps for grins with no results. I have been unable to find instructions for the 3 button remote. I have the alarm manual which does not have programming instructions. It simply says that if the remote is lost you'll need to buy a new remote and chipset model # 88 88 1 600 211 which, of course, is no longer made.

There has to be a way to program these things. I can take it to a dealer, but I really don't want to have to pay to have them mess with it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    .
Alpine used to sell chip sets (of ~3 chips) for these early style units, then sold out the remainder of their stock about 5 years ago.

I think the best way to solve the problem is to replace the alarm box and harness with the newer version. They are cheap and easy to find

Also, on the '89 635, that's a dealer or aftermarket install, the car is not prewired for this system, so the tech or whoever installed it had instructions on which wires to splice (which could be an issue). The dealer will probably not have a clue what to do with it.

Thank you for the feedback. That's a bummer. I really wanted to keep the old BMW unit.

I receive PMs from time to time asking how i fixed the 3-button remote with that unit... well, i didn't

THAT UNIT DOES NOT WORK WITH THE 3 BUTTON REMOTE. as jbh1989 stated pretty early on the thread.

I managed to make it lock/ulock the car with the chip already in the unit.. which sucks, because if you loose it any other remote it will be useless. and i never was able to arm/disarm any alarm.

    3 button remote

If you still have it, are you still interested in selling that remote?
