Might be kind of a bump, but have you found what was "wrong" eventually?
New on the forums, but I've been lurking for quite some while now.

I might have the same as you described (running on a 1998 740iL):
    - Fine idle, but a very light shake.
    - Did all the same INPA tests. And same as you, I have fluctuating values in cylinders 1 to 4 (which is bank 1, so might be something there?)
    - No error codes
    - MAF values off the chart (MAF got replaced by dealer 6-10k ago)
    - O2 sensors where bouncing nicely
    - What I noticed though, was after a bit of idling in the garage (no I'm not trying to kill myself with CO/CO2 poisoning ) that there were 2 distinctive damp spots on the ground (normal I now). But the one from bank 1 was like half the size of that of bank 2. Cat(s) clogged perhaps?
    - Also when I clear the adaptations, the car seems to perfom much much better for a few days, after that it feels a bit sluggish.

No not yet... reset adaptations today but still too much i.s. air needed. The hlm air consumption(MAF) went down a bit into range but i bet it will go back up in a few days... and engine smootheness is still not that great on all cylinders and i know theres no oil in there because my indy did vcgs and utcgs today...

I had kinda similar problem in my 96' 740

Fuel pressure regulator being shot caused some roughness and high emissions.

Fuel pressure regulator counts for all cylinders though, right? Not only 1 bank?

    Yeah that would be supposed.
But what I did find was roughness on driver side of the block.

When I was tearing fuel rail apart to find that problem I found fuel in vacuum hose that connects to fuel pressure regulator.
I quess fuel was injected that way into intake manifold.

I resetted adaptions after that and everything running smooth now.

Im not sure where my pressure regulator is... I think it may be underneath car but separate from fuel filter...i see the vacuum line running down under my car on pass. side from OSV/CCV...

That's odd, it should be located at the end of injection pipe.

    http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E3...ection_system/

    as shown in ETK.

You can also try to enter your vin to BMWfans.info and check if something is different in your car.

Did the new pressure regulator help? Or haven't you done it yet?

Yeah, same. Sprayed the whole with brakecleaner, but no change in idle whatsoever. Haven't had my utcgs and vcgs done yet though, so that might be something as well.

Hi guys! First of all sorry for my English, I'm from Belarus, if you know this country (between poland and Russia)). I have the same problem with my 740i m62b44. My pictures from inpa look so:

My problems are thi same like nuxy, but my problem in the bank 2.
    - Fine idle, but a very light shake.
    - Did all the same INPA tests. And same as you, I have fluctuating values in cylinders 1 to 4 (which is bank 1, so might be something there?)
    - No error codes
    - MAF values off the chart
    - O2 sensors where bouncing nicely

I have all new vcgs system, sparks, valve oil seals, i have made timing adjusting procedure with special tools, I have cleaned fuel injectors, installed new pressure regulator. Also checked a feedback pipe from the rail to the fueltank. But i think it will be much better to check fuelpressure in common. I have changed lamblda's, coils, injectors between bank 1 and bank 2 and i have no any result of my work.
Maybe somebody has resolved this problem, like mine???

no, no any misfires errors in DME. Sometimes i see a knocksensor 1 or 2 error, but after cleaning it goes away for some days. I dont like my adaptations. They all with "minus".

Try resetting the adaption values and drive the car for a couple days to see if the adaptation values go out of specifications. I think the lower the adaptation value, the leaner the fuel mixture and vice versa. There are plenty of good articles which explain the adaptation values...

i have made resetting several times. The last foto is a result of driving several days. Adaptation values never go away out of allowed border. Can somebody give me some links which explains the adaptations values? I have some problems with searching in english...

Try measuring your fuel pressure. Looks very much same as a had.
