I took it to a driveshaft shop and had it shortened, slip yoke installed and balanced + new center support bearing.
I imagine there is a fixed transmission end out there that would work and it's probably the way I'll go if it ever needs replaced or if I have problems.
You shouldn't have a problem with the factory exhaust, it just lookd too restrictive for me to let it go as-is

James, can you elaborate on the wiring side of things?
Is there anything specific you aren't sure about that's not covered in #46?
Let me know!

I'm not 100% clear on what wires you tapped into. I have bmw wds and have been trying to figure out what needs too happen. I'm just trying to get the basics on the wiring part of this swap before I dive fully into it. any chance you made a wiring schematic?
The stock F-body bore size is the same size as the MC in the BMW. I've heard numerous complaints about the stock F-body cylinder not pushing enough fluid to shift quickly at high RPM.
Besides that, this car had 232,000 miles on it, so at the very least, the hoses were due to be replaced, and I already had custom lines made up from my previous swapped vehicle.

The schematic is all in my head
The DME triggers a relay that enables at least 4 othe relays. The DME relay needs a ground to trigger itself though, so I used a second separate relay to convert KEY+ to ground. There... now whatever is being powered by the DME relay is on-line.
The fuel pump is controlled by the DME, but also requires a ground to trigger it. So, I used yet another relay (connected to the GM PCM's + fuel pump relay signal) to convert that to a ground.
At this point, I have the DME relay (and all associated relays triggered by the DME) getting power, and the BMW fuel pump (and relay) are being controlled by the GM PCM.
The 6-circuit mini fuse holder in the e-box is what I used to power everything else.
2 are 12v+ constant, the other 5 are 12v+ key+ and start.
The last wire you need is on the 18-pin connector in the e-box (separate from the DME plugs) that provides 12v when key is in the "start" position.
It's really that simple

Thanks for sharing the project and the tips. Great job and I always figured this was a better engine than the BMW.
Here's a long overdue drive-by video:

I like the tone of the exhaust it isn't obnoxious at all. We need in car video's!
E53 LSX Swap Coming Soon!
It has some drone issues from like 1000-2500. Most people usually don't have such a wide spectrum of cabin noise like I do...
Up next is an M5 steering box, complete suspension rebuild, brakes and AC $$$$

Did you convert to a cable driven throttle body or are you using the drive by wire setup? If you are using the drive by wire did you just put in a GM pedal?
I'm using a modified corvette DBW pedal assembly that's boted to the floor.
I retained the e39 gas pedal, works great.

^^Thank you
Terrific Job, can't wait for a drive-by!!
If you still have the 540, how much longer is the block compaired to the LS
How many miles have you logged on the swap now?
E53 LSX Swap Coming Soon!
5,000 miles. Needs suspension overhaul and brakes 237xxx on the odometer now, and I'm guessing a lot of the suspension is original...

This is extremely impressive. How has the fuel economy changed with the LS engine?

Finally got around to a big front suspension overhaul
Brakes
Koni Struts and associated mounts, etc.
M5 steering box
tie rods and drag link
thrust arms
control arms
end links
wheel bearings
The thrust arm bushings were definitely hosed, ball joints on the thrust arms weren't too bad.
Control arm ball joints were sloppy, couldn't really tell if the bushings are bad or not.
Pretty sure I burned up the power steering pump when I fired it up. I had it full and didn't prime by hand, now it's squealing every now and then. It must have sucked all the fluid down into the box like a toilet flush when I fired it up the first time Damn, I hate pulling off the PS pulley, and this will be about the 5th time I've had to do it...
Anyone have any tips on how to flush fluid out of a power steering box so I don't contaminate the pump? I see tiny aluminum flakes in the fluid
Can't wait to get the rear done, the front end improvement is amazing. I really want AC to get finished, but I'm leaning towards doing the rear suspension first... I need tires now.
Next up: Finish AC mounting, rear suspension, more exhaust mods, Installing my 3.62 M5 diff.
Then wheels and tires, leaning towards m-par reps square setup with 275/35 R18's all around.
Car dropped about 1/2" with the koni sport struts installed.
Got new hoses on the power steering to fix the small leak I had from the initial rigged hoses I used.

You could bleed it dry by unhooking the hoses and turning lock to lock. Or stick the hose off the pump in a bucket of powersteering fluid and the other in an empty bucket. In theory it should suck the fresh fluid in and spit it out the other hose... I've never done it that way or even tried it.
