Yeah, everything else went great up to that point. Belt routing was perfect for me to eliminate the extra idlers I had to add for my AC compressor. The radiator hose will have to come off to put the belt on, but I'm glad to eliminate some of my home-brewed AC bracketry!

    I ordered a 117.5" belt

The throttle body snag made me sick, but I'm over it now. We'll get through this!

Hammer the hood down, throw a new sheet of vinyl wrap on it. Racecar, not show car!

Oh, it closes! I'm just not sure how badly it's going to screw up the hood when driving it. I don't think the engine should be jumping up at the front, I guess we'll find out.

I fired it up today for the first time with the blower on it. Felt like quite an accomplishment, and the hood didn't fly off when I rev'd it, but I'm still stumped with the air intake situation.

How big of an air filter do you need for 600 or so FWHP, and where do I put it???

Kids these days make it look so easy.

Can you fit it into the driver side wheel well/ behind the bumper with an extended air intake pipe? I'm thinking it would have to be a 4" pipe. It's hard to tell if to have enough room for that. Keep at it, it's looking awesome. I considered this on mine for awhile. Glad to see someone go through with it!!

Filter? we don't need no stinkin filter!

4" pipe with a big ole K&N would be fine, I think...yeah, run it down to the fenderwell and fit a filter inside the fender well, behind the foglight.

It does look pretty good! I even have the Edelbrock coil covers if I can get them to fit under the snorkels.

I think the giant 17" tight oval Edelbrock filter will fit if I remove the plastic piece where the brake cooling air ducts pass through to the wheel well. I should be able to extend that boxed in area over towards the bottom of the radiator, it should work!

All that's left is pinning the crank, making an oil pressure sensor extension, wiring the heat exchanger pump, and this air intake. It feels like it's within reach.

Drove it today! Very pleased with the overall project despite the throttle body clearance that could be somewhat easily fixed ( I think...) and I still need to do a real air intake, but the 7" conical filter and cheap flexible duct I was able to fit behind the fog light will have to do for now.

Missed something in the tune, as if I get into the throttle any more than just normal driving, the throttle body shuts itself down. No codes! -- Has to be a predicted airflow problem somewhere. It's going to be great, I can feel it! Seems to be running better than before while just putsing around.

Out with the old Lunati cam, in with the new Tick Stage 1 V2 LS2 blower cam

    225/237 | .62x"/.61x" | LSA116+5

Operates much smoother, not that the old cam was terrible. Still doing some tuning, may have picked up some power on the top end, but feels a bit sluggish down low compared to the old one.

Seems to be better for a daily driver.

50,000+ mile Lunati high lift cam pics here!: Looks like it's ready for another 50,000 miles.

Happy belated earth day! Cats installed and made some small adjustments to how the exhaust hangs. The cats smoothed out the noise a good bit. No longer do pictures shake on the walls in the house when the car is running in the garage.

Well, she's sick. 2 cam swaps, a supercharger and 70,000 miles later I'm pretty sure I had a lifter/cam fail. Oil is a sandy metallic mess.

I'm leaning towards aluminum 5.3, cam swap and more boost to make up for the loss in cubes.

Taking almost 100lbs off the nose and cranking up the pressure ought to erase any possibility of displacement withdrawals. Good luck with getting her fixed up!

Just have to find the right way to go about it. 07-09 aluminum 5.3's are all pretty high mileage from my first searches. Really don't want more than 80k on it. I'm thinking... Maybe an LS3 with a head swap... Have to find the balance between price and miles.

An aluminum 5.3 with Gen 4 internals sounds like it would be perfect for your application. The only catch might be making your Gen 3 PCM work with the Gen 4 sensors and 58x reluctor wheel

I'm looking around at LH8 and LH9's (Gen4). I think the reluctor is a job I might be able to tackle in my garage?

The conversion back to Gen3 PCM sounds dooable, just not sure if I'll get enough power out of it to keep me happy.

Don't you have a C6? I could just sell you my supercharger and I could start building something else

Are you running a Gen 3 or Gen 4 PCM? That determines everything about your path forward. I assume Gen 3 since you were running an LQ4.

Changing the reluctor isn’t bad but you have to remove the crank to get it done which as you know involves tearing down the entire engine and pretty much negates the benefits of grabbing a “seasoned junkyard unit” that you can just slap in. Then you get into the “while I’m in there” which can be a waste of time and money. I’ve also read about horror stories of reluctor wheels moving around or being positioned incorrectly after being installed by guys in their garage. I trust GM’s reluctor wheel placement enough that I wouldn’t want to mess with it.

I have a C5 that I swapped a Gen 4 L92 (6.2) into. It’s basically the same as an LS3 but with VVT that I deleted along with a few other small changes. The beauty is that you can run the Gen 4 motor/sensors in a Gen 3 PCM equipped chassis with some minor non-mechanical work…

You could copy what I did and run a Lingenfelter Conversion box, which takes the 58x crank signal and converts it to a 24x signal which your Gen 3 PCM is happy to read. It’s a plug and play conversion, plenty of info out there on it

    Yes, it's a GEN 3 setup.

I'm trying to find the best bang for the buck without it going bang too quickly. It can't make less power than the 6.0 though!

I put a deposit on a 96k mile Gen3 L33 (aluminum 5.3 HO) Plan is to port heads, install new custom cam and lifters and boost it up to 10psi. Will put it on meth when I need more power.
