    E39 electrical problem...

I feel strange having to ask advice. I've owned 5 BMW's, and have never needed help with troubleshooting my cars...but this one has me stumped. I drove through some heavy rain last night. Not flooding or anything, just heavy. Out of nowhere my ASC light and brake light came on. After leaving the next red light I also realized that my automatic transmission stopped shifting into 3rd or Drive without me popping it to 3rd and back to Drive manually. Obviously I have water getting into a connector somewhere, but I have no idea where to start. I let the car sit for about 5 hours to dry and all is well, but I certainly don't want to go through this again! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    any time, any place
probably a wheel speed sensor with worn insulation on the wiring. Pretty common to see them with cracked insulation if they are original. Have a look at each one and when you determine which ones need replacement you can order them through our website.

I'll go a bit further and say that the sensor of interest is most likely a rear wheel sensor.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
