SÜNDE REISEN
Bought my 2000 540i with 116k. 7 weeks later, it has 117.5k.
I'm about to switch to about a fraction of that kind of driving though. I'm expecting to do an Inspection 2 within 18 months, but otherwise it runs like a charm.
Planning to keep it for at least the next 4-5 years or 200k miles. Then look forward to seeing the next owner put another 200k on her!!!

Odometer broke at 167k in 1999. I can only imagine. I know I've probably put 5k on it since I got it.
Lets just say 225k to be nice to it...lol
212k on the body, 6k on the fully rebuilt engine (I accidentally killed a piston by not checking the timing when changing the belt). Before that happened, the engine still seemed like it came fresh of the factory!
My dad used to own a 1987 325e, and got it up to the 400k miles many many years ago without any problems.
the '98 Z3 1.9 I just sold had 160k miles on it... though I wouldn't exactly call those "trouble free."
I replaced the gearbox, cats, key/ignition column, soft top, and entire cooling system... not to mention a dozen sensors (cam to oxygen), half dozen bushings, the guibo (twice), and the quart of oil I fed her every three weeks, because of leaking gaskets.
I will say though, that none of the individual repairs cost more than $1k, most I did myself, and the car never, ever, left me stranded. I loved that car.
The new Z4 has just shy of 6k miles... so far much more trouble free.

To put this in perspective, the earth is 25,000 miles around at the equator. The moon is about 250,000 miles away.
To travel these distances in a luxury/sports car is a real testament to BMW.

My '97 750il had 224k miles on it when I bought it in March '12. It now has 235k miles on it.
My '93 525i had 196k miles on it when I bought it in May '10. It now has 240k miles on it.
My '07 335i E92 had 69k miles on it when I bought it in April '12. It now as 72k miles on it.
My '12 X5 XdDrive50 had 5 miles on it when it was delivered in May '11. It now has 4k miles on it.
As for previous bimmers. I had an '04 E46 coupe that I bought with 56k on the clock in August '09. When I traded it in July '11 it had 87k miles on it.
The 328i E92 I got in July '11 had 84k miles on it. It had 92k miles on it when I traded it for the 335i back in April.
1995 e36 325i 283,000 and in excellent shape and running condition. Original engine and transmission. Boggles my mind, I know!
Bought my 318i w/ 182k exactly on the (knock on wood) working Odometer. Had to pop a clutch in it a week later. Since then, no real issues to speak of, just normal maintenance.
Has 202,xxx now
What really got me was when I was scouring a junkyard and found a 91 w/ 350k+ on it. I promptly yanked the lower pan off the car and discovered water in the oilpan, I suspect the only reason it was junked was due to a cooling problem leading to a HG blowout, although the interior was shot to hell. If this car with an owner that would spray can an interior can make it 350k, so can mine.

How to turbo your car:
Step one. Install ecu and learn to tune and or have it tuned.
Step two. Install injectors and retune.
Step three. Install turbo parts and bits. get it running with out leaks. DO NOT DRIVE IT. Idling should be ok
Step four. Retune car
Step five enjoy
Wow.
curious about your maintenance records and what you've done and how much you've spent over the years on it.
I've always wanted to see the cost comparison between keeping a car that long and maintaining it well vs just buying different cars whenever the mileage gets high...
