After replying to another thread, I got to wondering how many miles a typical BMW will accumulate before it's retired to the bone yard. I know there's many factors involved, such as determining when it's more economical to junk than to fix, but I believe it would be a fair gauge of life expectancy for these cars. How much more I can expect to get from my 1994 325iC with 196k?
How many miles do you have on your current BMW, and how many miles did your last BMW have before selling/junking it?
JUst purchased my 95 525i for $800 209k miles and i expect another 50k trouble free miles

All speculation, all my old Bimmers were running great when sold, current 318 is perfect at 110k, I'm sure it would go another 110k with minimal maintenance, my old M3 motor is waitin to go into its 3rd body, I'd like to put it in a TR6 or a Miata..

My 95 318i is at 209k miles and probably in the best condition it has been in since it left the lot. I'm confident in saying it will easily do another 100k without major mechanical faults.
My past BMWs:
90 525ia - sold w/ 186k
90 535i/5sp - sold at 180k (this one started developing a strange weakness when it was hot out that I couldn't figure out, though thinking back I am now convinced it was a clogged cat and I never checked that :/ Loved that car).
90 535i/5sp - this one had 265k when we sold it ... but we bought it with a broken speed sensor and god knows how long it was like that. It was probably close to 300k. Still had the original engine and it was easily the best running BMW I have ever driven. Cosmetically crap, but it would still hang with the best of them or lay as much rubber as you wanted it to.

'95 525i/5 (E34) -- 163k miles, bought it with 129k last year. Runs great and wouldn't hesitate to take it across country today.
'01 525iT/5 (E39) -- Just over 80k miles, bought it with 76k a few months ago. Same story, drives like a new car.
My highest mileage daily driven one was the E34 540i/6 which had 207k when I sold it 2.5 years ago - just talked to the owner last Friday and it's still on the road. The E30 323i had 254k when I bought it with a dead auto transmission.
