I tried searching here, looked the car over and came up with nothing. Trying to order parts and they want to know which engine, M54 or M56.
How can I find this? Its a 2004 325CI.
Thanks!!!!
Finally found something. If anyone needs it, put the last 7 of the serial number here and it will give you info about your BMW.

Here is a first place to look.
If it looks like this it's an m56
If it looks like this it's an m54
is the oil cap hinged or can you take it off the engine only the m56 had the hinged oil cap
Am I missing something ? The m56 was only used in the 325 SULEV. If your car isnt an SULEV then you have the m54. Be very glad if you don't have an SULEV car

Then most scary thing about the m56 car would having to replace the sealed gas tank when the fuel pump dies, but I have never had to replace one.
