Start -> All Programs -> EDIABAS, blah, blah -> INPA (_.IPO)

now sins last night try ing to install dis....and i stuck vhen i start virtual machine starts to boot apear scren vmvare boot and on next scren is only _ and stops that....

is dis can only instal over virtual machine? can it be instal as independet os?

DIS needs a UNIX operating system and can be installed natively on a UNIX machine, but you will have to use a yellow DK head with it as without vmware there is no way to communicate with a head connected via INPA/EDIABAS. A bigger hard drive is probably the cheapest option.

another question. Since i have this cable that is obd2, would dis worked with him without any modification files? or if there is what needs to be changed, since it is written in ediabas.ini the ADS interface .. i hawe this cable

In EDIABAS.ini, Change Interface = ADS to Interface = STD:OBD

In EDIABAS/Hardware. run OBD Setup.

You should not have to run the ADS setup every time, but you will need to change EDIABAS.ini so that Interface = ADS every time.

I built this using a breadboard and a slightly modified 20-pin round connector and it works well enough with my old WinXP laptop with a real RS232 serial port, connected to my 11/94 built E38 740i

Gentlemen,

I build the MKII circuit from post #254 using the exact parts from the PDF. I triple checked my connections and everything seems to be in place. This is my environment:

Vehicle: E34 520i 1995
ECU: Seimens MS40.1
PC: Dell D610 (with serial port)
OS: WindowsXP
INPA: 3.01

I did a normal INPA install, set the interface to ADS and ran the ads utility, then rebooted the machine. I also adjusted the serial port settings to FIFO and the buffers to 8.

Unfortunately, I can't access any of the modules. When I plug the serial to my computer and run INPA it detects battery and ignition. What is strange is the way the K and L LED's behave, and I was hoping that someone with a clue can comment on them. When I first plug lead #19 into the diagnostic socket, while ignition is turned on, both LED's would light up for 2 seconds, then they would go off simultaneously. After about 30 seconds they would turn back ON for a second then back off. While attempting to connect to the ECU or run the identification test, I see K line LED blinking but L line completely silent. I'm hoping that some one reading the above description, and viewing the videos can point me to the issue in my setup.

I am picking up a 98 Z3 next week and I have an older XP computer with a real serial port on it. This looks perfect for my needs - I have built a lot of electronics from scratch. Where do you source the 20 pin connector for the build?

Typically just get one of the cheap ebay OBD 16 pin to 20 pin adapter harnesses and remove the wiring harness portion.

I have the Tiny ADS interface that I am trying to get working However I cannot find a plain version of INPA, Ediabas or NCS. All the ones I have are configured to run OBD only and will not let me run ADS mode.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a working INPA, Ediabas and NCS download that will work in ADS mode?
Also I am fairly competent with computers but does anyone has an easy set up and install guide?

Did you run the ADS Setup found in the C:\EDIABAS\Hardware\ADS\ADS32 folder?
And did you already change the EDIABAS.ini to run INTERFACE= ADS ?

Yes and yes.
I've got a better copy of inpa now and a laptop with a real serial port so it should work.

Dann, try restarting your computer after running the ADSSETUP.exe and make sure that you have made the addition to the path statement in Windows Environment variables (Device Manager).
