98 M52 should be OBD, not ADS. So you should not need the ADS converter. It should work with the correct setup, but someone else needs to confim this.
But I recoment that you build the simpler ODB converter for newer cars or just buy one from China.

Hi,
I'm ready to prepare HansV ADS interface MKII,
And didn't work with my E36 M40.
CD4053 burning during engine run.
Alternator voltage 13.8V
Any ideas?

Thanks Kevin,
I have double check the circuit line, and it is in conformity with that suggested by HansV file - ADS Interface MKII.pdf.
I have made a second pcb, with changes in schematic diagrams, so that IC 4053 is not burned when the engine run.
And it worked when the engine run (voltage up 14vdc) and IC CD4053 not burning.
I have tried INPA 3:01 with STD-OBD on Ediabas.ini, I noticed the lights K-Line, L-Line, and DTR blink when I tried ALT+F8 (special tools -> quick identification test).
But I was not able to connect to DME and others, because I do not have a Real RS232, but only trying with USB-RS232 BAFO and USB-RS232 Belkin.
Sory for my english, I'm from Indonesia

Mine is just the MKII version, did not need to add anything for it to work. Never had a burning up problem like you were having.
Have you tried it in ADS mode?
Need to run the ADs Setup found in the EDIABAS folder, I forget where right now, EDIABAS/hardware/ADS/ I think.
Change the EDIABAS.ini to ADS interface and also make sure you know what port your cable is running on and make sure everything is set properly with it as well.
Finally, I've managed to connect my DME with INPA and DIS v44
While the engine is running, IC CD4053 does not burn.
I use a real RS232 on my PC, my PC HP T5730 (thin client) with RS232 configuration in the bios "Serial Port 1 = 3F8/IRQ4", and OS Windows XP Proffesional SP2.
Serial Com Port = Com1
TxFiFO = 8
RxFiFO = 8
Software INPA 3.01, Ediabas 6.4.3, and DIS v44.
Edit the file "Ediabas.ini" with notepad:
Interface = ADS
RemoteHost = 192.168.68.1
Port = 6801
Running ADSSETUP.exe file in C:\EDIABAS\Hardware\ADS\ADS32.
Reboot the PC and run inpa.ipo, and I managed to connect with INPA.
INPA.png
I have tried with DISv44,
Install BMW diaghead emulator and run, run IFHSRV32.exe, running VMware (DISv44.vmx), and I managed to connect with the DIS.GT1_DME.png
Many Thanks Kevin, Hans & David.

Hi guys
first post here
might need a little help. I made up the mkII interface that sorta works. I'm having communication issues with the pc ( infamous ifh-0010 and ifh-0009 errors). I did try directly in an old pc with serial and recently substituted it with a vmware winxp virtual machine and an ftdi ft232rl chip 450xN.jpg , by simply forcing the VM to emulate a native com1 port that feeds from the ftdi chip. I had to reverse the DSR signal in order to get correct detection of ign signal in INPA, but that works now. My troubles now:
i. I have proper battery and ignition sensing in INPA
ii. can't get rid of the ifh-0009 errors. I've set up the ftdi chip to have a latency timer of 1ms and hacked the windows VM to have a latency timer of 1ms at the com1 port. VM sees RxFifo and Tx Fifo of 8, baudrate of 9600, ftdi set at 2048 bytes for receive and transmit..
ii. I think I might need to reverse the DTR signal as well, the led is acting up a bit funny..
overall, I think it's a matter of nailing the right speeds/rates to having it work properly. I did manage to read the zke at some point while experimenting, though with errors for comm interruption. Any thoughts appreciated
update:set the receive and transmit down to 64bytes and now the 0009 errors are gone, however as soon as I connect to a module I get a 0010 error. I should also note that the K/L line leds had no activity

Hey,
First of all thank you for this thread!
I've tried to make CD4053 version, but at that time I had no real serial port.. i tried to use it with usb=>rs232, it did not work and cd4053 burned out...
So I got laptop with real serial port and created the first version By benemorius, I can read few things with inpa, but not all, also I can't connect to DDE, it gives me this error:
IFH-0010: DATATRANSMISSION TO CONTROLUNIT DISTURBED. Program will be stopped
I've read that the error occurs with xp computers with the obd interface, but I know that i have set it to ADS.
Tried it with INPA 3.0.1 and with newer (5.0.6 i guess)
Car: 325tds - 1996 - M51
Thank you for any information and sorry for my bad english!

Check is it set it ok in c:\EDIABAS\Bin\ediabus.ini (right click open with notepad) interface = ADS; there is version of inpa where u chose ads and in ini file it stay on obd!
Ok, I just tested it on other engine, it works great, thank you!
Hello,
I built the interface from the very first post in this thread, but can only access the ABS unit (ABS MK20) and nothing else on my EU 1997 e36 316 compact. All other modules just gave errors when trying to open. Even the battery and ignition indicators doesn't come on but the ABS unit error codes and brake pedal on/off signal shows just fine. Could it be a problem with my circuit or the Inpa installation I have? The version is inpa-6.4.3-full. Or should I build the improved "MK2" version? I have the pin 15 insert in my car and haven't found any OBD2 socket.
I'm using a Dell laptop with a real serial port and Windows XP with no service pack, FIFO buffers set to 8.

I tried another laptop (Toshiba Pentium 2 from 1998, XP), and the battery and ignition indicators and the ABS module worked, but nothing more. The battery and ignition indicators didn't work on the first laptop but they worked on this. Strange... Maybe I should just build the MK2 version.
Some Dells need to use a special ADS32.dll file as their serial ports are not conventionally wired. Unless you have made an error with installing the software, INPA is unlikely to be the problem as this is one of the most functional versions ever released.

Serial ports are fine on Tosh Satellite 1800, Dell D400 (and 610 but not 600 IIRC)

does anubody hawe link with instalation manual for inpa usb i cant find .or install video on youtube,last time i install with some poland guy video byt cant find again
Can this interface read webasto auhilary heater? I read somewere that webasti can read everu interface through K line but i dont know how to
Got bored
Made diagram from the one at the front of the thread as al those floating earths needed something doing..........
1 - Final.jpg
Then thought I would be helpful with the track cutting for a second one

And here's how the bits layout on the other side
2.jpg
This one I inserted 2 LED for fun. The red X are the extra track cuts to make this work with LEDs. The red lines are where the track cuts are (more or less) on the other side. If I recall correctly the changes for LED adding do not impact the wiring to and from Serial and Diagnostics. D is for diagnostic and S is for serial. Numbers are the pins

Hello guys!
I've made my ADS interface but had some problems:
Firstly I used BC558A as my PNP transistor in INPA and DIS I could only read Instrument cluster module, as I not sure what model my transistor is I switch collector with emitter. Still only instrument cluster works. I found in this topic someone post simplified version and said that transistors should be hFE > 100, my BC558A is probably less so replace it with BC560C. Now when I put transistor in correct position, INPA doesn't work. But if I put it reversed still only instrument cluster works. Connection with instrument cluster works both ways, I can enter tests, read/delete errors. Could you help me find what probably be wrong? My car is E36 early '95 with only pin 20, there is no pin 17.
Hello all.
I did build the ADS from first post of this thread.
It works pretty perfectly. Can connect to dashboard, ABS, AIRBAG, ECU etc.
Found that i have code: 42 Knock sensor 2
Problem is that the com port plug and the laptop com port socket area gets extremly hot.
I dont think that its normal.
Its a old Dell laptop.
One guy here decided to put 10kOhm resistor into RI line.
Maybe it will help?
Im worried, i dont want to damage that laptop and/or its com port.
The laptop was sitting on engine but it was not so hot. Almost cool..
I repeat: only the area around laptop com port socket gets very hot.
Any ideas what it could be?

I use a Dell D400 and based my diagram above on first post and can access all modules. No heat issues

Hello, please tell me, I've assembled the HansV ADS interface scheme, see a lot of things, ABS, air conditioning, dashboard, central locking and something else, but does not see the DME (Siemens ms 40.1) wires from the diagnostic pad to the DME whole, Inpa just Hangs on reading DME, DIS also does not see DME.
Can anyone tell why so? And what to do to see the DME? Thanks in advance !!!what to do to see the DME? Thanks in advance !!!
Thanks for the help, figured out for yourself, the problem was with the tole computer due to Windows 7, the roofing felts due to the non-working com-port! I took another computer and it all worked! Thanks for the scheme of HansV !!!
I'm having a hell of a time getting the Tiny ADS interface to work with my 95 M50 325i Convertible. Does anyone know where I can get a working, unmodified version of INPA which will play nice with my car? Every working download I find has been modified in some way so it works well on modern versions of windows and/or USB adapters. I've got an old XP machine with a real serial port right to the motherboard. I've read everything on every forum and thread I could find. I've edited the .ini files accordingly. It's the Tiny ADS adapter which is inside the 20-pin connector so I know I didn't screw up any wiring. Best I can get is Battery On and Ignition On indicators but every task results in communication errors. I've been at this for a couple months now.
