Here is another thing I am facing in my car. The "check" light in the center of the speedometer is blinking, and not a steady light. What does this mean? (no sarcasm obviously it means to check something) What would be causing this to be coming on?
The check light flashes to tell you to look up at the overhead warning lights. I would say that there is a corresponding light telling you a high beam or brake light is out, or something along those lines
If no lights are lit on the overhead panel, press the test button up there to see if the overhead panel is even working or if there are any burned out bulbs.
the check light goes out when you hit the brakes. If theres a light on the overhead panel after you hit the brakes, then the check light will not turn off until you hit th "test" button on the display.
It means your car is about to explode!!!!

It means you just told the waiter that you're picking up the tab.
Seriously though, the flashing check in the cluster is simply a reminder to look at the overhead check panel.

I have this same issue, but can't see anything illuminated on the overhead panel. I'm questioning whether this even works, as I've just bought the car and finding some things being a bit quirky..
when you push the test button on the overhead, what happens? it should light all the lights, if not, you have a bad bulb so it could be that slot causing it. I would say check all your fluids and stuff regularly until you find what is causing that issue. fluids, bulbs, brakes all can cause the light to flash, I think
No e30s again.
I just took the bulb out of the dash for the "check" light (you've got to remove the cluster to do it - and easily reversible for the next owner) ... I don't need another "check light" ... telling me to "check the lights" above ... Kind of "over-redundancy"!
And according to the wiring diagrams, the lights in the overhead counsel are light-emitting diodes ... not replaceable bulbs. I took my overhead counsel out, and saw absolutely no way to even open it up ... unless I'm missing something.
on mine, the face pops off. like the glue stopped working that held it in place. I didn't check the bulbs to see if they are led or bulbs though. I just glued it back in place
No e30s again.
Ah, the face comes off ... I'll have to check it again.
