    sorry for the broken English

    M3C,
    you yourself do you do? tell me how to connect the entire system to work? whether dobovlyat additional wires to the unit from the E38?

    The all 8 sensors are activate by the switch or reverse light signal.
    If you interested I’ll send you email with the diagram.
    dancerst (or anyone who can provide input), I know it's a long shot but if you can send me the diagram you speak of I would greatly appreciate it. I was trying to retrofit the e38 system on my e31 but essentially I was told it would most likely not work because of the ibus input needed on e38's. See post below:

    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...ntrol)-systems

    You mention to make it work you had to add one more ground wire....can you specify where? Do you just ground that ibus terminal on the control unit? Can you post the PN for the control unit you used? I guess if you were able to make it work the entire system is dependent on the switch, correct? I guess you only lose the functions dependent on iBus (speed cut out, etc).

    I would be infinitely grateful for your input on this.

    You can try it by putting momentary ground to pin 19.
    FYI, I can confirm this works on an E36 yellow plug PDC module. Momentary ground to pin 19 can deactivate/activate the pdc while reversing. I used an SMG switch from an M3 Evo which has 3 pins and when pressed closes one of the wires to ground (other 2 wires are of course ground and illumination).

    not seen this type of PDC switch before. How does it work? turns PDC on/off while in reverse gear?

    To keep the topic going

    - as from what I heard the 0/1 switch 61312137728 was used to deactivate the PDC if using a trailer. All the others E32, E38... had the illuminated one and was for activating the front/rear PDC

    - by diagnostic (NCSexpert with NCSdummy) the front/rear E38 PDC module (mask PDC.C01) can be set to:
    * 4 or 8 sensors
    * tone generator rear loudspeaker/gong
    * tone generator front loudspeaker/gong
    * only one tone generator yes/no
    * PDC button yes/no
    * switch on delay yes/no
    * PDC only with ignition yes/no
    * activation with speed yes/no
    * switch on notification first time yes/no
    * switch on notification each time yes/no
    * push botton notification yes/no
    * failure...
    * sensor spacing...
    * measuring range...
    * sound volume...
    * switch ON speed...
    * switch OFF speed...
    * switch OFF distance...
    The bolded options if set make the PDC almost automatical without touching the PDC button. When you put in reverse or at low speed it starts the PDC, bulb in switch ON, when you go over some set speed (~20km/h) it deactivates.

    The only problem is as the E38 PDC diagnostic is throw Ibus - but the E36 ZKE doesn't have Ibus decodification from OBD2. The E36 is old system ADS. The second problem is that the E36 PDC is visible in INPA, but not present in NCSexpert. Under E38 the PDC is visible as PDC.C01 (old passive sensors), but this works only with Ibus diagnostic. I have 3 module (E36 violet, E38 violet, E38 front/rear yellow) and I already found some differences in the diagnostic input. The circuit is premade for ADS and Ibus but then with some resistors and diodes the factory set the diagnostic protocol. I will try to set the E38 reaf/front module in the same way as on E36 so I can acess it throw diagnostic (INPA), but I will need to solve the problem with changing code as the NCSexpert doesn't has the PDC mask. As for the E38 PDC NCS mask (Ibus) I will have to try to copy/paste it to the E36 folder and try coding the car with ADS. I hope the PDC will recognise the direct diagnostic orders, with the GM4 changing them to Ibus

    I was always worried how about reverse input as on E38 it's made throw Ibus. But now I know it works as tested in this topic with a additional ground
    So if you want to put E38 front & rear module you need to add 1 more ground wire, othewise you wont be able to turn on yuor PDC from the reverse light signal.Cause on E38 it uses i-bus to switch rear sensors.
    pin #18?

    In addition any module violet or yellow plus has the circuit premade for PDC 8 sensors. Only then the factory choose to be cheap and fit 4 or 8 output transistors, regardles the module could be programed to 8 and has 8 outputs. Both violet or yellow were used with 8 sensors and I will try to make a list for a upgarde of the el.circuit to full rear/front (some resistors, transistors, capacitors and diodes)

    update1: even if E38 diagnostic input logical converter is set as on E36 (ADS) from the E38 (Ibus) the diagnostic doesn't connect. I gues it is not only some resistors wired differentky, but a different programed processor . Any diagnostic must be done on a E38/E39 throw IBUS and then the modul connected to the E36.

    Now I have to find if there exists a OBD to Ibus interface. Navcoder can't be used as it only allows PDC reading but not coding

    - - - Updated - - -

    in addition - the output transistor is a MPSA93 with on each channel resistors 47k, 7.5k, 2x 22k; 2x capacitors (still have to measure) and 2x Switching diodes model BAS21LT1, case SOT-23. The modules with only rear PDC have the pads empty, but all the other connections betwenn the uP and the outputs are the same. The only problem, that even connected to diagnostic with INPA and NCSexpert on ADS E36 the modul can't be coded as the library of the NCS doesn't has the PDC module mask. If someone has the PDC module program diagnostic mask (under NCS/DATEN/E36 or 34 or 31 or 32) please post it on the forum.

    Great info!

    I had never seen that PDC switch either. I'm assuming that's to deactivate the REAR PDC when using a trailer, correct?

    Sorry I can't be of much help but I'm keeping close tabs on this thread. If I'm not mistaking you're trying to use the e38 PDC module to make the front/rear PDC work in your e36 using ONE single e38 module, correct? Since my tech saviness is not great, once I found out that the e38 module needs ibus to work I dropped the idea of having one module control both front and rear PDC.

    The e36 & e31 share the same OEM rear PDC system so hopefully you can get front/rear-in-1 to work so I can mimic on my e31's.

    I just installed Front/rear PDC on my new E36... And as the last time I've used ONE PDC modules for front and rear. NO IBUS NEEDED!!!

    FOR EVERYONE WHO HAS INSTALLED E38 PDC MODULE.

    If after installing on E36, your PDC still doesn't respond for reverse lights, you have to modify the module from inside.

    This is what the E38 PDC (front + rear) looks like:

    STEP 1:
    you need to focus on this area:

    You are da man! This project just bumped its self up my list of stuff todo on my 8's! Couple quick questions....so you are still using OEM sensors right?
    Also, just to recap....the switch will activate/deactivate the FRONT PDC sensors and the rear are automatically activated when the car is put in reverse gear, correct?
    Kudos to you my friend! Heck, next time I'm in VA beach I'd like to buy you a beer
    ooo...last thing, what are the specifics of that 10k ohm resistor? I'm knowledgeable with electronics, but I'm no expert. I've never actually used that type of resistor before...if you have some sort of part number it would be even better so I can just purchase

    This is exciting
