I'm pretty sure it is the 2721 (most of the interior bulbs in the E30 seem to be! lol).

BTW, you don't need to order those. Any auto parts store should have them in stock for pretty cheap...

Thanks for the help, this thread has been very useful to me and I've got it bookmarked.
I am looking for the same bulb Daniel is. He is right, at least in my car, it is different than the pointed map light bulb. Did anyone identify what that is. I would love to change to LED.

    Here is a pic

Oh, this is the worst-looking hat I ever saw. What, when you buy a hat like this I bet you get a free bowl of soup, huh?

It looks good on you though.

Pull the bulb out and write down any and all numbers found on the base.

The bulb that was in there isn't original (unless BMW used Mexican bulbs)

The only marking is T53. Any ideas? It sounds like Daniel has the same bulb or I would wonder if the halogen was correct and someone replaced it with a different type.

Well at this point, I'm doing a bit of guessing but here goes. First of all, I assumed that BMW would prefer to spec something that is already in their inventory. As the bulb shown is not original, I used it to spec the size of the base. It looks like the the base is a bayonet style BA9s. The only bulbs I'm aware of that were used in that era by BMW was the T4W and the H10W or H5W. I'd probably try the T4W first and see if that provides sufficient lighting. If not, then I'd go with the H10W. It's probably the 10W though. Dome lights in sedan/coupe were 10W.

    T4W/OSRAM 3893/BMW 07509063576

    H10W/OSRAM 64113/BMW 63311375003

Let us know how it works out.

I found a BA9 based LED bulb on eBay, I ordered it and will see what it does and will report back.

I finally found the correct listing for the cabrio dome lamp next to the check panel. It's a 5W halogen bulb.

    Code:

    Bayonet led for e3o cabrio?

I'm pretty sure I did this wrong. But, I'm in search of a bayonet LED light to replace the bayonet dome bulb in my '87 e30 cabriolet. Any clue! I'm tired of buying the wrong bulbs!

    Thanks

After so many times people asking what bulb goes where, I decided to create a comprehensive list of lamps and where they are used in the car. This should be fairly accurate. Please post any corrections in this thread and I'll update the chart.

If a bulb is not listed here and it's one of the tiny lamps, it's most likely
a 2721 or 2721MF. Some switches have replaceable bulbs that are not listed.

It should be the right lamp. Did you try applying 12V directly to the lamp? (Remember polarity.) Maybe it's defective.

Just out of curiosity, did you try connecting them with both forward and backward polarity?

I'm seeing a discrepancy on the 2721LL bulbs....I got a pack the other day for the HVAC panel from Autozone and they were the correct watts and volts, but when I stopped by Advance yesterday to get a second pack for my ashtrays, it called my attention that they specify 6.5V 9.8W.

The correct wattage for those locations is 1.2W, and these have a new part # which is 2721LL.BP2, which are 13.5V and 1.2W. Be mindfull of the part number when buying these!
