    Hood Latch

Since i purchased my E38 i always had a hard time opening the hood. I have to pull the lever from the inside twice for the hood to open. Is there an adjustment i can make so my hood will open without me pulling on the inside lever twice? Sometimes it does not open at all and i have to go pull up on the hood and then run back and pull on the inside lever like 2 or 3 more times. Is this normal for the E38?

You might need to adjust the hood pins. There are two of them and they can be raised by unscrewing them. Often the springs wear or break out of the bottom and it causes the hood to not pop up when the release is pulled.

$4.08 each plus shipping at Crevier, probably about $8 at my local dealer.

Are they easy to replace? Can you E-mail me the ETK for the replacement? If you can.

Now that's my kind of repair!! With that being said I would prefer that mine don't break...

So you think by replacing these 2 items i will not have the problem with the hood anymore? I thought it would be a lot more to it than just this.

Mark, you are me hero. I just unscrewed them a bit, now works like a charm. Again thank you so much Mark.

Ha! You owe me $89.00 for one hour labor!

A little WD40 helps. Check if you have more problems, as you may see the spring has broken through the bottom.

I am telling you Mark is a great guy. He has a lot of knowledge about these E38's. Again thanks Mark.

kickass - just found this thread and had the same issue on my E39. Loosening up the hood pins a bit did the trick - been bugging the crap out of me. Thanks!

Remember if the pins are not sticking up when the hood is open, you need to replace them! I've seen some where the pin itself isn't popping up and people have unscrewed the assembly just to have the rubber surround actually trying to lift the hood!

They are so blasted cheap, if your pin isn't stickin up and is stuck in the rubber surround, replace it!
