i saw a cosworth motor for sale on craigslist / south jersey just thought you might want a spare seller was located in vineland next to njmp i also loves these cars
Sweet project. This was my 100% favorite car until I got sucked into the BMW world. I still remember trying to CONvince my parents to buy me one when I found it for under $15k. "As cheap as an economy car!"
One of the oddities about these cars is the front struts look damn near exactly like those used on the e36! When I saw that on the TV show "Wheeler Dealers" I couldn't believe it!
Chris
Very very cool project. Any in-car video? If not, start taking some!

I just picked one of these up on friday...
what's the best way to rebuild the shifter? it's sloppy as shit, and it has all new bushings. Mind divulging what the ground control setup ran you? Car has a rebuilt SLS system and new front struts so I probably won't swap them in the near future but it sure did roll a lot. Any idea how to stiffen up the clutch? it's SUPER light. I'm used to my M3's bimmerworld pressure plate and having something so light isn't exactly my thing. Awesome car though.
are you planning on going EFI with it?

Congrats! But be prepared to do a lot of work and troubleshooting on your own. There's very little info available for track junkies like us. Very different from the M3 world!
I couldn't say. I had my shifter rebuilt by Alex at DENT Sport Garage outside of Boston.
I'd have to double-check, but it was in the ballpark of $2600 using Koni Race double-adjust dampers. Single-adjust Koni Race would have been around $100 cheaper per corner. You can also get non-adjustable, but custom-valved, Bilstein Sports. Ground Control's own Advance Design dampers are also available for about the same price as the Koni Race DA's. Prices will vary depending on shock and spring choices.
Not sure if you can really get the SLS to give you the kind of performance you're after. Probably better to do what I did and just scrap the whole system.
Sorry, but I have no ideas at all about that.
Yes, I'm working with Levent at Guten Parts in NJ to put together a compete swap. We'll be replacing the intake manifold and flapper throtttle with a custom 48mm ITB kit and swapping out the horrid Bosch CIS in favor of modern EFI. Right now, it's between KMS and MoTeC.

any tips on getting the driver side engine mount out? there's no clearence from the top and I can't think of a way to really get at it from the bottom.
looks great! nice work too
This is such a cool build! I love seeing such rare cars getting a new lease on life.

Thanks for the support, guys! I do have some pics and a couple of videos. Haven't had the time to sit down and edit the vids, but I'll put up some clips as soon as I can.

Awesome build. Growing up a few family friends had them, and I always liked the look of them. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pd0GaFuU_0[/ame]

Just change the springs. I know its a bit ghetto but just put stiffer springs in. I just tested what came as stock and then went to an autozone and measured a bunch of stuff.
Didn't change the material and it was for DD use so I only swapped out half the springs but it made a difference. I'm sure you can just change all the springs.
You'll blow through clutches if you bump the springs and keep the stock clutch like I did but it'll be fun!
I've had a very difficult time finding a wheel and tire package that does what I need it to do for this project. The W201 chassis has tiny wheel wells to start with, and things have gotten even tighter after swapping in the coilovers. Since we're building the car for vintage racing, we can't just cut out the fenders to make room. On top of that, I'm running the Evo II Brembos, which adds yet another dimensional constraint to the picture.
After trying out a whole bunch of different wheel/tire combos and spending literally thousands on wheels that didn't quite work, we've finally found a combo that looks promising:
These are 2-piece BBS RX II 503 alloys in 17x8" ET35. They're a bit heavier than I would have liked, but at least they fit properly. The tires are 225/45-R17 Continental Challenge semi-slicks, which are rebadged Hoosier endurance racing tires (basically R5's with a harder rubber compound). They should hold up well for HPDE and amateur racing.

Looks FANTASTIC!
I'm telling you that car MUST RUN in SCCA STU. (Super Touring Under 3.2L)
Do it up in SONAX livery!
What does the car weigh empty and what kind of power are you making?
many years ago that car was run in the Speedvision Cup (now SPeed World Challenge)
Electromotive engine management - that would be a good place to start. Try to find the Tech Sheet for the car from back then.
The guys at DSG do my dyno work. I've known Alex for 20+ years going back to bicycle racing days. Good guys over there.
Look this guy up from the Kansas area about runnning a 190e 2.3-16v in SCCA.

Looks great man!
Nice project I`m about to build a MB 190 too, with a BMW 3.5liter engine. The old 2,3 16V engine dont live anymore..
Any further plans?
The only major parts of the project left to do are:
(1) converting to multiple throttle bodies and electronic fuel injection.
(2) rebuilding the rear subframe
(3) removing more weight from the car
Obviously, the first issue is a big one. I can't even imagine how big of a job the wiring will be!

Wow! Looks like the Meisel car is for sale. I know it crashed heavily last season. Wonder if those pics are before or after the wreck.
