Are you still driving this car, Bryson? Im looking for a picture of the line coming out of the master cylinder. I have a pile of swap parts that came out of another car, and Im installing them into an automatic car as we speak.
I assumed there would be some sort of bracket that located the hard line that comes out of the Master cylinder. Thats how my E30 was when I converted it, If I remember correctly.
anyone with a 6 speed E31 mind taking a photo of the line setup from the master to the slave?

    Thanks

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but I've bought a complete parts car and will be doing the swap on mine. This thread was super helpful. My question is, do I remove the transmission EGS computer? Or just leave it in place? I plan to use the same pin grounding that is described in this thread.

I'm assuming the 12 pin connecters have pin numbers on them? I went through the troubleshooting manual and did the best I could to look at the schematics and understand the pinouts, but couldnt quite figure it out. I did see at the end of the manual they list all the various connector shapes and show pin numbers. I also was able to see how pin 4/5 on x18055 were needing to be grounded same as DME's 63/64. But if I left the EGS computer in wouldn't that essentially provide the grounds? Otherwise I want to make sure I ground the right pins! I'm not too concerned with cruise control, but I certainly want the EML throttle response to be correct.

Lastly, I see there is no mention of reverse lights. I'm thinking the parts car I have may have the jumper needed, but I also found Olin's swap thread where he connected the reverse switch. His was a 840 but I'm assuming this harness is the same.

    Thanks all for anyones help.

I can recommend a shop in San Diego if you’re willing to go down there. In fact, you could probably even get my former car to be side by side with it.

I think I remember removing the automatic computer, but that was a while back now

Thanks Bryson. I’m about half way done with the swap now. Only thing I’m still concerned on is the pin numbers on those two connectors.

Brettd85, here is what worked on my conversion:

ELECTRICAL BYPASS FOR 6 SPEED SWAP:

    · Connected pins 5 and 7 at the auto transmission gear selector in order for car to start
    · Connected pins 24 and 25 and grounded at the gear connector/plug - I later reversed this
    · NEED TO GROUND PIN 33 OF TCU PLUG - this removes Trans Fail Error warning.

I removed the TCU from my car - hope this helps.

Thanks Brian. Doesn’t sound like you did the step for The different throttle controls or functioning cruise control. Is that correct?

Can you explain what you mean the gear connector plug? I don’t think this has 24 pins if you are talking about the shifter. And why did you remove it?

maybe I’ll start my own thread once I get it running and have pics of the plugs. I don’t want to muddy this one. The throttle adaptation is the only one I’m uncertain about. Thanks all for the help

I used the Wokke EML 2.0 chip with my auto DME. I dont use cruise-

The gear connector plug is in the center console, where you unplugged your AT shifter

PM your email for some pics

Transmission is in, just need to finalize the pedals, bleed the clutch, and button up the wiring. Waiting on the guibo as well. For anyone looking for a new clutch and pressure plate, good luck!! Of course the sachs OEM is NLA. I couldnt find a SPEC unit either, no matter who said they were in stock. Ebay etc. SPEC says they are no longer making them. I had KY Clutch rebuild my clutch, resurface the Pressure plate and fit new damper springs. Was about $300.

I have the wiring figured out for how to start the car and reverse lights. Here is a picture of connector X506(white) and X18055(black). The question is, which pin is pin 9 on X506 to eliminate the EML light? According to Olin on his 840 it’s a gray/brown wire. I assume 850 might be the same. And which pins are 4 and 5 on X18055 that need to be grounded to fix throttle adaptation and cruise control? Its the pin positions that I'm unsure of. I looked at the end of the wiring diagnostic manual and can't find these connectors with pin numbers. Thanks all for the help!

Here is a pic of the transmission I pulled from the parts car, and my car in the background. Cant wait to row gears!

Wasn’t so long ago that I also had my gearbox on the bench, figuring out how to replace the front and rear seals!
Not sure what you’ve done regarding shifter bushings, but the early 6 speed (NLA) rear shifter arm bushing can be replaced with a E30 poly version from Garagistic.

Sad to hear that clutch options have dwindled.

Haven’t heard from anyone on pin numbers but have done a bit more research. Appears everyone agrees that if I ground pin 24,25, and 33 at the trans ecu/egs connector in trunk that it will do everything needed.

Getting excited! Waiting on flex disc and exhaust hangers. Also ordered up a sport steering wheel thats been refinished with red/blue m stitching!

Check out my pic for PIN number
The number are on the right side of the socket connector. Very small imprint

For clarity in the future, since none of the pictures accurately identifies which pin to ground... ignore that and simply ground pin 33 in the connector that used to go to the EGS computer in the trunk.
