I won't presume to know as much as any of the experts here. Honestly, I think Randy would be the best person to ask. Here's the phone number for him that is posted on his website. (419) 350-1098

    1) Had the check written to purchase the car.

    2) made sure that I could do a full PPI on the car.

    3) On the hoist most things checked out great besides a few small repairs needed.....mainly maint. issues.

    4) Put the car back on the ground and WALLAH! there it was.....very very small hail damage everywhere. (Hood, roof, hatch all peppered!)

    I am bummed beyond belief.

You can only see the hail damage in the right light, the silver hides the tiny hail damage very very well.

I tried to negotiate the price to a reasonable level since the hail was so well hidden. Thinking that I might be able to stomach the issues if the price was right.
That did not go well, so I walked away from a 02 S54 M-coupe with 57k on it. such a bummer!

Bummer! Sorry to hear. What was their asking price, if you don't mind me asking? Could the damage be PDR'd?

Please post the VIN and listing here so someone else doesn't get hosed with hail damage.

The car was moved outside last night and had frost on the hood, roof & hatch this morning when I viewed it first.
I was able to see all of the side panels and only found one tiny door ding on the passenger side.

I knew from prior experience to look further, that's why I made a deal based on further inspection.

The car has not had its 60k valve adjustment, needs some work to the heating controls. (no heat) & the HVAC adjusments (blend doors) are not working properly.
I could get full air defrost and full air to the foot areas, but no airflow to the center of the car. (dash vents). & yes I know what I am doing.

    1) It had two HVAC issues no heat(cold airflow) even when at operating temps.

    2) No airflow to the center dash vents at all. only the area at your feet and defrost flowed proper air.

The asking price was $19,995 and I negotiated from there, had a deal to purchase it for less.

    all said.

    1) Hvac controls & no heat
    2) needs a 60k (service 2)valve adjustment (had not been done).
    3) bumper cover had been sprayed, (common rock chips)
    4) very tiny hail damage but all over (was very hard to spot until you get in the right light.
    5) wheels needed to be refinished, brake dust and some detailers chemicals had taken its toll on the chrome shadow finish.

The rest of the car was beautiful......properly maintained, no bolster wear,

Valve adjustment is easy, however putting the valve cover back on correctly is the hard part. I have seen some pretty dismal work.

I can fix the a/c problem in about 30 minutes, assuming it blows cold on your feet when its blowing.

I bought the car Friday @ noon.

negotiated a bit more & I will live with the VERY VERY tiny hail damage.
    No car is perfect.......

The hail is so minimal you cannot see it in the light, you have to get in a perfect lighting situation to see it. A few people that inspected it with me could not see it, even after trying to show them specific areas.
I am to anal and want a perfect car for a cheap price......I am over that.
    I own a 57k S54 Coupe ........happy!

Will eventually get it PDR'd or worked over but the price was worth it.

Thank you guys for calling me and assisting PBfut & Randy you guys really helped.

Nice find! With the hail we have had the past couple of years I am not surprised. I had good luck with a PDR over here East of Saint Paul with my Cooper called Finishing Touch. Got a huge dent out of my tailgate that involved a seam crease.

When you finally get this done, talk to Todd Koosman at Motorwerks. I worked for him for years before I enlisted. Great guy and probably the best PDR guy in Minnesota.

    Congrats!

Woke up this Saturday morning early, hopped in to the garage with the pup & coffee.

rebuilt the pins and cams on the backside of the heater control with a steel collar instead of a plastic crappy weak pin.

I used a tiny tie-rod end from my misc tiny bolt section, remaining parts from my RC car days 25 yrs ago.

The process was painless but very tedious.

    End result-

    1) Heat Rheostat works perfect and I was able to salvage the retainer spring detent device thingy.

    2) cables were properly lubed (I have cable housing lube devices for multiple sizes of cables.

    3) When the Pin broke on the cam for the Heat Rheostat it popped the armature off the blend door knob......I could only get airflow to the floor & defrost.

After the repair was completed I am very surprised how easy it was & how smoothly all the knobs work.

I WIN! (for today at least).

The red arm is for the Airflow direction (blend doors)
The Cream/tan arm is the Heat rheostat.
