The hearts of sports car aficionados will beat a little faster with the arrival of the new BMW 650i Coupe. The third generation of the top-class Coupe sees BMW adding another chapter to its decades-long tradition in the production of exclusive dream cars. The new BMW 650i Coupe impresses with its stunning design and inspires with even sharper driving dynamics than its predecessor, noticeably optimized comfort levels and extra space. This is the only car in the segment to offer the combination of top-class sporting ability, exclusive touring comfort and a 16.24 cu. ft (460-liter) DIN luggage compartment. Also on board to deliver the BMW 6 Series Coupe’s signature driving experience are a range of innovative driver assistance systems and BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment features. The new car therefore meets the highest expectations of driving pleasure and style in a large, premium 2+2-seater. The 650i Coupe arrives in US showrooms this fall.

idk if its the 6-series is supposed to be like this, but it really looks like a 5er 2-door coupe.

huh, I actually really like it - I love the new 5's lines. Too bland as it is right now, but with a sport bodykit (which I'm guessing will come) and some more aggressive wheels, it would look incredible

The car is simply stunning. Great lines and a huge improvement.

Much better then the last 6, but still no where near the E24 or E31 as far as 'big coupes' go. Sad, I still would opt for a E89 Z4.

Nowhere near how? Back that statement up.

I haven't driven the new six (obviously) but I have kicked its tires at the show. Blows every car you listed away excepting fuel economy (compared to the Z4) and cost to acquire.

The 6 has always been a 5 series with two doors, different interior and chassis tweaks. That it now looks that way as well is no big deal to me

edit: I'm not trying to tell you what to love so don't take it that way.... but don't hate this until one arrives at your dealer to examine.

    That's what a 6 is...the last one too. It's everything the 5 has minus 2 seats...

In terms of looks. The (now last generation) 6 was ugly and this is better, but no where near it's predecessors.

I'm sure it will drive 'ok'... If its like any of the other latest offerings, it will be numb.

Not a question of absolute performance, it naturally will be a few generations better.

It's another generic new fast car, with little reason to chose it over the comparable mercedes jaguar audi etc etc etc. of course it's going to handle better than a 20-30 year-old car. That's not the argument, it doesn't have the soul of BMW's older big coups. At least they've got it with a 6speed...

Not a huge fan of the front end but I LOVE everything else. That rear is sexy.

I'm not sure. It's not a bad car but IMO it looks a little dated. I've always felt the front end strangely recalled the Z1.

The styling is based on the Gran Coupe that BMW showed off a little while back. It's actually just a 2 door version of the Gran Coupe. There are minimal changes to the design.

Except maybe personal preference dude? I don't see how you can argue the car has no soul when none of us have even had the chance to drive the thing. You are borderline trolling here.

    Looks pretty nice.

Off-topic, but when are they bringing the 8 series back(if ever)! I STILL love how the 8's looked.

Couldn't agree more. It's not a car that stirs the soul. Although none of us has driven it yet, a car that stirs the soul should start when you look at it at first, it's gotta have characteristic. I can bet you this car won't be on anyone's bedroom wall, but I can bet you the E24 and the E31 has been on many people's walls, and on their wish list. I know, because both were on my wall and my wish list.

BMW's gone and done it right, but they haven't done it great. I bet this car is powerful, good handling for it's weight, uber comfortable, with the latest tech. It's got everything, everything apart from soul.

Just look at the E24 and E31, and look at some of the other cars made during their time. One thing about big coupes is the styling, and the newer 6's just don't cut it.

I can tell you that no legendary car is perfect. I don't know about the E24, but the E31 had stupid small rear seats, and crazy fuel mileage. Take a look at the Alfas, they're gorgeous to look at, piss poor reliability. Take a look at the world's best selling sports car, the MX-5. It lacks room, it's lacks power, it even lacks masculinity. Yet it seems to be a perfect car.

I guess cars these days are to commercialised. They've gone for a safe path where the car will sell in volumes, nothing new or radical, no break-through.

I'm waiting on the i8. If that thing looks like what it's current testing mule looks like when mass produced, then I'll say at least BMW tried.

Aren't all of us stating personal preferences in here, positive or negative?

You knew the older coupes were something special just by looking at them. A drive certainly reinforced that notion, but it wasn't necessary to pick up on the cars' soul.

Same with the current car. It's attractive; no doubt, but there's nothing distinctive about it like there was with the older models. On a basic level, it's just another lozenge-shaped German road-eating cruise missile.

But don't mind me; I'm just the resident grump.

I am absolutely not trolling. It is personal opinion, but when you look at a car like the new S5 Audi, or the 2012 CLK mercedes, they are just as bold and have a similar presence to the 650, nothing to set it apart. The old 6ers and 8ers screamed uniqueness. This is a very pretty car, and I would be happy to drive it, especially as it has a stick option, which my C class so sorely misses. I'm just saying it's not in line with BMW's old 'big coupes'

The soul comment, again was not in regards to the driving experience, as when you buy a car like this, there's so much more than just the drive; which is why I drive a C63 over an M3 and the 8er is my favourite car of all time.

The coupe looks nice and a million times better than the last 6 series. I still do not like the looks of the convertible. Neither of them are half as nice as bmws 850csi.

My point is that it is premature to declare that it doesn't stir the soul when we can't even drive it yet. Let it be produced before making such assumptions. You say that soul stirring starts with looks, well, it does it for me. I think it is much nicer to look at than a boring S5 or any other six series ever produced.

Again, its personal preference. And people will buy it.
