Now retrofit the carphone, just to have all buttons working. Or get the button pods without phone buttons.
Have you recoded the cruise control module to your car's engine? This will make a big difference in its operation.

I haven’t coded it yet but I will do as I’ve recently got all the software.
I have the other buttons here but just haven’t bothered installing them yet.
I wanted to install the phone but I also have the cup-holders which are a lot more useful to me

Hi guys
I'm looking for proper Z3 cluster with cruise control icon
Does anyone know from which year they have it ?
Fold
When I was looking for a Z3 cluster with cruise icon, I wondered this too but never found a definitive answer about what year it was fitted from.
I ended up setting up a saved search on ebay for Z3 clusters and when they came up, checking out the pics to see if it included the cruise icon. I was lucky enough to find someone selling a faulty cluster with the correct symbol strip and the seller removed the strip and posted just that to me to save on postage. You have just got to be patient though.
Cheers, Mark
Hi buddy
It's not a direct transfer unfortunately - you will have to cut your existing strip and the Z3 strip. It sounds really daunting but it is actually pretty easy. Have a look at my post No 223 in this thread and that should help you along.

Shout if you need any more help.

I really don't want to mod my mint original M3 cluster, so I did some home fabrication to make some "as OEM it could have been".
This is still in prototype stage.

Nice idea
if you want bigger green light, take button interior from ASC.
guys,i've got cluster with CC light
how have you connected it ? GR2 gives +12v to turn the light on, but old clusters lights are controlled by connecting ground ? have you used relay? is there a better way ? i don't want another clicking relay under dash
Relay under dash you don’t hear with engine running.
No I don’t want a bigger light, the green is already very bright.

here's solution for all of you dreaming about CC dash light
i've got E36 Compact 98 petrol 1.6, it's pretty popular and used parts are cheap
this car already have CC light. Cluster looks very similar to Z3 (maybe it's the same even different part number?)
BMW part number 62 11-8 381 858
VDO number 110.008.831/003
VDO 89652583 (front part), 88311221 (back part, check attached picture, back part has wrong icons)
Production date 98/11

but i need help with connecting CC light
I have no idea how to turn it on
most lights in cluster share +12v and are turned on by grounding second pin
this CC light shares ground with fog lights, i have no idea where goes second bulb pin
it's not measureable by multimeter! probably there are some electronic components on the way
any idea will be appreciated, i have to finish this today

Finally i've found it!
pin 10 x271 - black plug is connected thorough diode to this bulb
there is also split of this path to darlington ULQ2003 so probably it could be controlled via CAN
What to do if my E36 doesnt have an Ibus line? Can I just route the Ibus wire from slipring to an empty pin 7 on radio connector. I have an CD43 installed. Its weird that diagrams shows that if there is an original CD changer istalled from factory then it should have an Ibus wire from radio to changer, but mine doesnt..
Yes, Just run the wire to pin 7.
Thanks!
Wired almost it all today, had to do everything from scratch since my E36 didn't had a cruise control.
Thank god I had a complete wiring loom from an E36 (sadly also no cruise control), but at least I could get wires color matched and get comb connectors.
Will maybe finish it tomorrow, if I have some spare time, hope it works..
I have a problem - cant get buttons on the steering wheel to work, not even iluminated. The buttons are out of the dual stage airbag steering wheel. Is that a problem?
I have it pinned -
1 - Ground
2 - Violet/White comb connector
3 - Cruise module pin 24
4 - Radio pin 7 (didnt had any wire in that pin), so its connected buttons to radio
5 - empty
6 - Horn
E36 itself is 04/1995

1 - Ground 0V
2 - 12V
3 - 0V
4 - 12V
5 - empty
6 - 12V
Both in key position 1 and 2
Buttons has no backlight either.
Horn is working

Your radio buttons should work. Your cruise control won’t work without proper cruise module and wiring modification.

If you still don’t get even illumination, then most likely your slip ring is damaged.
Take out airbag and check voltage on the other end of slip ring or simply check continuity of each wire of the slip ring.

As mentioned earlier for cruise control MFL you need a different module and some wiring job.

Ok, contacted.
Thanks to Dancerst I got my buttons working.
It turned out I have a E39 slipring and E38 buttons with 4 wires across instead of 6.
I had to switch two pins (1 and 2) around on slipring at the airbag side of steering wheel.
