Acording to the Bosch book at Walmart the only Bosch wipers that fit my 89 535i are the stock replacements and not the Icons. The book does say that the RainX Latitudes will fit. I also have the AVP design with the reversed hook. I may just buy one of the Icons and try to fit the drivers side like the OP showed and dremel the cap to snap on. I agree this post should be sticky'd.

THANK YOU for posting these pictures. I feel like this is the only way people will understand the earlier wiper systems.
Of course the book won't show that these fit. But I can tell you the rainx ones don't fit because the guy at O'reilys tried some on my car and they were a no-go.

OK, I must confess, I couldn't read every post on three pages.... so here is my question then:
which brand/model wipers available at normal retail locations (Walmart, Kmart, Target, AutoZone etc.) will fit on a late production e34 the EASIEST?
Bosch or Michelin would be good, but hell, anything really... I hate even the idea of going to the stealer's though.
Im going to be replacing my windshield this week and my wiper arms arent looking the greatest. They have worn springs so there wiping capabilities arent 100% and they have knicks and chips everywere. I figured this would be a perfect time to replace them. Having a 89' 535 i see that i should buy a 95' wiper arm at least for my drivers side so this mod will work. But since i am buying new arms is the e34 arm best to go with? I know some are using e39 arms. Just wanting peoples opinions.
thanks
Who is using E39 arms? Their blades are even more silly.
I own mostly junk. Except the Porsche, that's kind of cool.
All the motorcycles are trash which you can read about at

I'll update it eventually

where can i buy bosch blades?
Any auto parts store, I havnt checked walmart but I think they carry them as well.
I got mine on and the drivers side doesnt lay down in the center of the blade and the passenger side doesnt lay down on the right end... if that makes sense. I got the 24 on one side and 22 on the other, Im cant figure out why that is.
I just got the rainex ones.....pain in the a** to install

Just so we are clear, all the books call for 24(D) and 22(P)
But those are too big.
So is a 20/20 settup acceptable ??
I had the reverse j hook arm on my 535i along with the spline mounting setup, so i just cut the end of the arm off, flipped it and welded it back on, no more reverse setup, bolted on 24" and 22" blades and voila, add some RainX on the screen for brand new wiping features
couldve gone to 22" and 20" and that woulda been fine as well, maybe even better
I used Bosch Icon 22A (formerly called 422A) on the drivers side of my 90 535i that has reverse J, the instructions here were right on. A little dremel trimming to the snap on cover, and we were good to go. I bought a second 22A for the passenger side, haven't installed it yet though. Word on another forum I'm on, is that the 22B would be better on the passenger side, because it is designed for curvier glass than the 22A. Many thanks to the OP & other contributors for helping me see clearly!
