Sooooo...What is the story for all you folks that have left the ranks of E24 ownership? Was it really that bad? What chew bought in its place? We all know that sooner or later, you will ALL be back Right?

Unless it was wrecked or just had too many problems I cant think of any reason anyone would get rid of their six... I could be wrong though.
Sometimes I look at a 911, especially a convertible, and wonder about it.
Those 380/450 SLs have been known to draw my eye.
But I don't think so.
Next choice http://firsttraderegistry.com/forsale/1_11/86porsche/
thinking about it, but still keeping the the sixer

I may become part of this category soon, if I can get the balls. It's going to be tough to let go, but I just might. Not sure yet.

Oh goodness...we've been over this many a time.
A few reasons:
- Couldn't stand to DD her knowing that I would have to drive her through rain and snow.
- Couldn't give her the dedicated attention she required if I had to have her all back together the next day to drive to work.
- Not very practical when I had to take the kids somewhere and the minivan wasn't available.
- M30 gas mileage. 'Nuff said.
Needless to say, if I ever rejoin the ranks of the faithful, my "new" (Euro) 6er will not be my DD.

I want to buy one, but just cannot rationalize buying a third car that will only be driven in the short canadian summer months... that and I don't have the garage space. These cars are beautiful, right along side the e31 as the best BMWs made in my books.
I troll the e24 forums dreaming sometimes
I'm on the fence about selling mine. Just does not handle the back roads anywhere near as good as my old 968 or 951. Track days and AutoX, fuhgetabudit.
Its way underpowered, way to heavy and with a 3.91LSD sucks gas like no tomorrow.
The good:
Very comfortable, awesome on the freeway and and has an unmistakable look.
I think I should have held on to my 951. Was a few grand away from perfection (IMBHO)
I may go back to the 968.
Who knows....?

I was about to list the reasons I might sell mine in the future, but after driving it all weekend (e34 is broken) with the exhaust note fresh in my mind, I can't think of a reason to ever get rid of it.
I wanted one for years, they are so beautiful, but the performance is garbage compared to even the most worn out E30. I would still love to have one with the engine and suspension completely reworked to BMW standards and a manual trans added, but that will never happen.
I am never selling mine, there will have to be a terrible accident.
I plan on adding a Porsche 928 or MB 560 SEC next year, I was thinking 840Ci again, but I've already been there and done that.
I have room for 3 cars and one day I plan on building a garage to hold many more!

Well I bought the E31 because I really wanted it and it was what I could afford.
But literally the week after I got it, I got a huge raise I wasn't planning on getting, I had just be denied the promotion and then for some reason they gave me the pay raise!
So I waited a couple months and ordered my new E92. I sold the 8 because I didn't have the space for it at the time and now I do.
I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, but those cars I mentioned I might be able to get locally.
The 8 I had shipped from NJ to AL. If I can save $1000 by buying a local car, that'd be great!
I mean my lease is up on the E92 in May of 2012. I plan on getting the replacement car around the end of this year or early 2012.
Verdict isn't in yet, if you have any opinions I'd like to hear them.

Our e24 was truly a blast to drive ('83 5 spd/od hi comp 635) and as with all sharks, an ode to tremendously good looks. However, she suffered from rust in the wheel wells and with prices plummeting, we didn't have the fortitude to drop another $6-$7K into properly restoring the body. A couple thousand had already been invested in bringing the A/C up to barely acceptable standards. It was getting close to suspension rebuild time as well.
There will always be a soft spot in my heart for these beautiful machines. Ultimately we feared that a really nice example would mainly sit idle in the garage. Concerns about other distracted or otherwise irresponsible motorists would take the joy out of the driving experience.
The e39 is very quiet, very comfortable (getting more important as the mid century mark recedes in the distance), handles quite well, and has a kick arse A/C system. Personally, I don't understand claims that these are soul-less buckets of bolts. It may never be a classic but it's a heck of a lot nicer than most affordable alternatives nowadays.
Actually the worst part of not owning an e24 is missing the banter in this little corner of the internet .

The timing of some personal events brought me to sell my shark last year. I relinquished my privilege of being legally allowed to drive, and it seemed too tempting to have my 6 just sitting there, ready to go. I've still been around here reading and learning, and also looking for a new 6 project. While I've been spreading out and working on other makes and models. I am hooked on the line for a recently painted/leather wrapped 633 semi local, so I'll see where that goes. I've been collecting hop-up parts for the next 6 project. Actually today I scored on some 850 front brakes and lower control arms.
Christmas time. Time to buy the E24 that you really want!

All i need to say, the ultimate coupe.
Haven't been around here in a long time but I couldn't resist posting my own experience; sold mine to make an addition to my house and I still kick myself in the rear for doing it, terrible, terrible mistake!! Here she is, last I heard it was in AZ somewhere...
I think if selling my six means I can get a really nice, sorted 560SEC, I'd be mighty tempted to. Can't stick with just one car my whole life, gotta have some variety.
C'mon, 5.6L V8!
Do it. So many cool cars out there and little time on the planet.
Not a bad idea if you can score a nice one. Love the SEC.

They always ask me what my favorite car is; the next one. I like my 6er, but it's heavy, can't go around corners like my old Porsche, but it does ride better. It's the best bang for the buck you can find.
Lets get the party started before it's my bedtime.
My favorite Merc coupe, Hope to have one of these someday

This was my last bad boy weekend cruiser. 23K miles when I bought it in 08. Sold it in 11 and got the 6er. Might go for an SEC or an 8er next.
But not feeling like I'm gonna fall out of love with the 6er anytime soon though.
