yup, 90percent of it while I just kinda would tinker, change caps, shake cans, and outline for a minute til he went over again.A 6 year old painted that?!?!
well it looks as if I'm going back on my word. It'll be a bit before it's driving.so for motivation sake, not another update from me til it's a video of this thing driving
so I got my ecu back from Rick over at http://www.begeman.org/corneliusmotorsports.html---he did an amazing job with getting my megasquirt to do what it was supposed to do along with full documentation of wiring and everything. Great guy :d
this happened.....first start....horray...
and shortly after, this happpened wa wa wa.....
Hard to drive with a head like this
(building a car for 2 years, there are certain things that might be overlooked or needed to go back over to tighten, mechanical error is a b#^ch)
if I can scrounge some cheaptastic valves then I'll be getting this valvetrain up and going once again, otherwhise if anyone needs s38 goodies, 90k on a complete shortblock, full standalone, cams, etc......I'll be going 1j or 2j when I sell this motor I've got. Although, I'd like to drive with this motor for a bit already arghhhhh......
so amidst all this, I had to use me neato camera and take some pucturas of her nearly all together and colorful (the kiddo got at the bumpers too )
and back apart
What wheels are those? CCWs?
so sick!
dang that is some bad news about the valves. I do hope you put it back together instead of a jz swap
wow everything in those motors is MASSIVE
Im still obsessed with how amazing it looks as a truck. Amazing job!

mistiming on the cam belt?
car looks sick however loving hte paintwork

Thankyou kind sirs for the compliments.
well got used valves getting here tomorrow along with a head gasket, drift event on saturday. (now I'm realizing all the hostility of using this motor for a track motor-----new valves are over 100.00 a piece at a decent rate, head gasket is too much, and then God forbid I break an essencial oem part of the motor), verrrry high sighted for that, but hey, there's always next one. I've got a buddy who metioned to me the cost of a full 1j swap (ecu, harness, trans, all ready to go), rear sumped for about 2k, verry enticing if everything doesn't work out. But got to give the s38 a whirl at working outI do hope you put it back together instead of a jz swap
well, not initially, but due to some untightened bolts and the removal of a distributor, install of some cam covers some time ago, and never looking back, that and then some.....Supertardedness strikes againmistiming on the cam belt?
Imaiami, i have been following your thread since you put it up, please please please dont do a 1j, i love the fact that you are sticking to tou vision and i really hope you get everything worked out in your favor. I'm not a hater of toyota, seeing as i have an ae86 myself, i just want to hear and see this badboy do some crazy dorifto action with this s motor
god damn that thing is sexy, been far to long sense I've seen her in person!
Man, been far too long since we've seen ya in person
got some valves, head gasket, and the head all back together, then realized the head bolts were torque to yield. So my super rush for the last events fell by the wayside. But she's ready to go back together, just waiting on parts now.
a nice saturday morn of head rebuildin, lappin, and fort making
and after playing need for speed shift 2, seeing the e36 with a shaved trunk, and having to finish mine...... why not give it a whirl.
and of course gotta let the kiddo have some fun too....
and since we were painting, why not?
The paint is now super over the top. but hey, why not have some fun with it until the time for all one color super serious car truck racecar comes her way.....cuz she sure doesn't seem like a racecar yet, but more of a piece of art in me ol garage.
art indeed, good to hear the engine is almost all back together and ready to roll.
I think you've got a talented little artist there and since you've already got it all painted up why not roll with it? ..."and now coming onto the track, the e36 drift truck, painted by a 6 year old!"... lol
waka waka
Any update on this beast?
I love the paint work so far. I'd primer the unpainted parts and let the kid finish it off. Nothing like racing/drifting an art car!

She's looking great!
Can't wait to check it out one day
I also spotted the OEB- I have an english myself
glad to hear yall like my boy's art. I love it
paint is no where near the immediate future with the pace I'm going with this thing. That'll be long after she's driving, sliding, exposed and ready for a full aero setup, If of couse that ever happens.
with the motor, let's just say I'm super laggin.
a little motivational aspect to keep the s38
Wow, looks sick poking through the hood
epic with the individual filters my friend EPIC! haha damn though that alone makes it hard to say go 1jz
Great work brother, always love seeing updates on this beast.
pure awesomeness!
what a lucky 6 year old

This project is amazing, I'm glad you stuck in there. I can't wait to hear that engine in a video, great job on everything!
Thanks.....
so not really a up date but more of a down date........
the motor is back apart,,,,,,
The compression prior to running state was
1- dry 175 wet 215
2- dry 185 wet 210
3- dry 170 wet 190
4- dry 190 wet 220
5- dry 170 wet 210
6- dry 170 wet 210
Got all the bent out n new valves lapped in, head gasket, and new head bolts.
Threw the head on, it ran like poop, so I did another test and got
#of replaced valves
1- dry 155 wet 210 2in, 0 ex
2- dry 140 wet 190 2 in, 2 ex
3- dry 120 wet 120 0 in, 2 ex
4- dry 170 wet 210 2 in, 0ex
5- dry 170 wet 210 2 in, 0 ex
6- dry 30 wet 50 0 in , 0 ex
Then leaked down the bad cylinders to make sure it was valves, and sure enough cylinder 6 was letting it all out the exhaust, cylinder 3 was out intake which lead me to still having bad valves and not rings or head gasket.
Got the head back off, did a upside down leak down test with a solvent , (something I very well should have done prior to my head going on in the first place)
I expected cylinder 6 to gush all the fluids out with cyl 3 then 2 to follow, but to my disbelief, cylinder 6 is holding as much as other cylinders that held full compression.
50 psi to 210 psi.
so thats where I'm at with some more valves on the way, but not too sure if that's cylinder 6's issue though........
hmmmmm, I'd think a sticky lifter would have bent the valves if that was the reason for no compression on cyl 6, but then it wouldn't have passed the upside down leak test.
I just wanna get this motor going already lol.....
