is that private property? if so, what a great chunk of land! provided it doesn't shake that is!
The photographer, Rick c, emailed me today to say that he would email Josh, and that it was ok to use the pic in his book!
He also stated that he had been a guest in the house next door to the BMW, and that is how he got the pic. His friends are no longer there, however, so he doesn't know anything about the car now. The BMW owner was never around, he said.
Tom D,
He was quite impressed with that second pic that you posted, btw.

Any Baurspotters on Long Island?
This car was photographed in Merrick, Long Island in 2009. If it is the car we think it may be, it may have belonged to Christiane Baur at some point. Yes, that is Baur as in BMW Baur. Yes, that Baur family. A Celebrity vehicle, of sorts.
Can we find it?
Square headlights. Dark grey color, single tailpipe, NY plates, and rear spoiler.
It was almost 60 degrees here today.... The convertibles are coming out of hibernation up north. This may be the ONLY Baur on Long Island, if it still exists. So, if anyone sees a Baur on Long Island, ...... CALL ME!!
Ok, well, email me or post it here somewhere.
Merrick is roughly between Hempstead (where American Sunroof Company was located, btw) and the Jones Beach area on Long Island, NY. Hmmm... A beach resort area, warm weather coming.... If it still exists, it is gonna be out there sooner or later.
Keep your eyes peeled!
A challenge on http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/.

Ok, boys and girls. The Memorial Day weekend is upon us, and with it the official start of the summer season. We all know that that means car shows and convertibles will be everywhere.
With that in mind, I am bumping up this thread, because ..... I would REALLY like to find this car!! According to our Baur Guru, Jeroen, if it is indeed the car that we think it may be, it was once owned by Christiane Baur! That makes it a very special car with notable provenance, perhaps. We won't know for sure until we find it and positively identify it.
The car was photographed in Merrick, Long Island, NY in 2009, and appeared In Mark Spizzirri's blog.
http://markspizz.net/?p=424
The ubiquitous Jeroen naturally spotted the blog and is listed in the comments section. This guy doesn't miss a THING, Baur-wise!! .
This would be a great time to locate this car, given that conkitchen has put his rebuilt Baur on the market in California. You may recall that his car has the Baur plate for the Baur that was once owned by another member of the Baur family, Michael Baur. His sale is listed in it's own thread as well as the 'Baur TC1 in the US' thread in this forum.
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1660159
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1566814
So anyway, I am asking, ---- ok, I'm begging!---- for any forum members out on Long Island, in the NY metro area, the mid-Atlantic and New England States regions to keep your eyes peeled for this car! If it still exists, and I think it does, this is the time of year when it will come out of hiding!!
Let's find it!
Square headlights, dark grey color, NY plates DHA 8816, license plate holder says 'Movin on', single tailpipe, Euro bumpers, and rear spoiler.
L8apex914 is our newest Baur owner (1980 Baur 318), and he is out in that area of Long Island, not far from Merrick. Lawrence Charlemagne is another NY Baur owner.... But we don't know where in NY he actually is.... Yet. But there are lots of Other E21 owners in the area also. Hell, if those West coast guys can find that abandoned Baur on the beach in California (see earlier posts in this thread) we should be able to find this one, sooner or later! Don't cha' think?
Your Mission, should you decide to accept it, is to find this Baur!
Good luck!

I am happy to report that I have received the following email today from Eric B in LA:
"Hey Tom,
Not much for blogs or forums (hopefully you can fill the gaps). I am the individual that purchased the Baur from Beaufort ('78 323 -and shipped it to L.A.). I am in the process of restoring my '82 w/ an M20 2.7 Stroker w/ Turbo capable of 27lbs of boost (currently in the paint shop; 'granite silver' w/ all chrome or silver to be blacked out).
The '78 (beaufort) is still in my workshop -resting peacefully w/ a lot of rust.
Please email me to discuss Baurs... I have always loved them.
Best,
Eric B."
Wow! This is the Beaufort Baur that I have had posted on my blog for MONTHS!
I am at work, but I have responded to Eric, and I hope to have some more info on this car soon!
http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/
Scroll down the sidebar to see the info on the Beaufort (now LA) Baur.
I found this in an ad in True Gear Head, and I have even corresponded with the folks on that website to try to find this car, to no avail.
this is GREAT news!
Thank you to Eric for contacting me about his car!

Baurhunter Alert! Metro DC area!
This photo was posted on 2/6/2012 in the E30 forum by bimmerforums member FrOzEnSoLiD, who is from the northern VA area. According to TomDC, it appears to have Maryland plates. I am posting it here because I know we have a number of members in the greater DC area, and we could use your help.
N.B. 1) Right hand drive.
2) No Baur TC badge on the B pillar (roll bar).
3) Unusual Color
4) The color of the Baur frame is matched to the body color.
All of those items noted above serve to help us identify this unusual find as one of the 3500 TC2 Baurs built in South Africa under license to Baur Stuttgart.
Baur Guru Jeroen J. of The Netherlands, resident authority on all things Baur in bimmerforums, has commented on the above:
"The Baur from FrozenSolid's pic is a South-African build Baur. It hasn't the "Baur TC" plates on the B-pillar, but the most recognizable part is the coloured Baur-frame (all Stuttgart build Baur's have a black frame). About 3500 Baur TC's where build by the SA BMW-factory. The frames where put on before the car was sprayed or anything."
That is the first South African-produced Baur we have spotted in the US, as far as I know.
Your assignment, Baurhunters, should you choose to accept it: LET'S FIND THAT BAUR! Maryland plates, metro DC area..... how hard can it be? Can't be more than 3 or 4 million cars to sift through, right?
I wonder if Lothar Schuettler knows about this one.... or perhaps the BMWCCA National Chapter? Any National Chapter members here?
If you know anything about this Baur, please email me, or post your info to us in bimmerforums thread here:
