Compiled for my own information but make sure you read the notes:
As you may already know from the other thread you helped me out in, my touring is build date 5/93 - maybe I'm reading it wrong but that falls outside the ranges on that chart, I was just wondering where your source information was from so I might learn more about it.
my US version E36 M3 1998 model also has a 5HP18.

Thanks, Yeah I don't know how I read it wrong - down side of it being 7 am I guess... I thought that was start date 7/93.
That was all I needed, was just curious if there was a reference material I wasn't aware of, always like to know all the technical details of my cars
Bit of information for you then:
http://www.e38.org/e32/bmw%20code%20defaut.pdf
http://www.zf.com/na/content/media/united_states/corporate_replacement_parts_1/service_portfolio/passenger_cars/5HP18.pdf
http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/BMW_Automatic_Transmission_Specifications.pdf
The ZF file even includes the model for Shogun's M3 - should be a 1056000099
Two known faults are no reverse and 2nd to 3rd gear flare. Both can be sorted with a valve body upgrade kit. The repair manual (5HP18REP)has a compehensive list but doesnt cover the valve body!
10 years later my 5HP18 is still working well, no problem at all. Actually according to ZF NA my E36 M3 5HP18 has the p/n 5HP18 1056 000 104The ZF file even includes the model for Shogun's M3 - should be a 1056000099 .Two known faults are no reverse and 2nd to 3rd gear flare.
My one is green label 5HP18, parts number ZF 1056-000-104 , BMW 24002228631, serial number C538578 from ZF/Getrag, as far as I could see.

Hey,
Yes, the ZF spare parts catalogue says it should be 1056000099 BMW part 24002228375. That still appears in realoem.com but 1056000104 BMW part 24002228631 does not. It confirms the importance of checking the plate to identify exactly which trans is in the car. I seem to recall there was some issue in finding a spare parts catalogue for your trans but you got one in the end and kindly send me a copy. Good to hear that it is still running fine 10 years on.
@E32Mexico: contact on the German 7 forum the member yreiser , he can make one Eprom D3000 for you and send from Luxembourg, he also drives an E32 730 M60B30 EZ '94 with the 5HP18
How to install https://www.7-forum.com/modelle/e32/..._egs/index.php
Symptoms :
- Hard upshifting and downshifting in various driving conditions, poor shifting comfort.
- Electronic transmission control sporadically switches to emergency program, error 100 (gear monitoring) in error memory
- 3-2 Downshift uncomfortable, with strong jerk when accelerating slowly (35 - 50 km/h), does not occur when accelerating quickly
- 4-5 Upshift hard when load is released
- 5-4/4-5 Pendulum shifting under light load in speed range 80 - 85 km/h
- Sporadic hard shifting after aborted full load acceleration from approx. 120 - 155 km/h
- 4-5 Shifting is interrupted under light load in the speed range 80 - 85 km/h, i.e. 4th gear is used again for a short time, possibly with a hard shift shock. This process can be repeated several times while driving constantly (80 - 85 km/h) under light load (pendulum shifting).
Vehicles affected: 730iA (M60) with A5S 310Z and chassis number less than DD 44 532.
Before : Read out the software status of the EGS via MoDIC or DIS. If software version D3000 is already installed, there are mechanical problems (e.g. hydraulic switchgear, resistance speed sensor etc.).
Part number EPROM D3000: 24601422532, no longer available from the dealer.

here is the ZF list with wayback machine https://web.archive.org/web/20140308...cars/5HP18.pdf
that does not list my 02/98 E36 M3 3.2 4-door US version with ZF 1056-000-104 , BMW 24002228631 , maybe because only abt. 4000 have been built
