    e46 brake pad sensor reset?

I know it's here somewhere but I cannot seem to find the process...

Replaced front brakes after sensor wore thru. Warning light is still on - what's the process for resetting it? I was thinking you could just put the key in #2 for a time, but no joy. Tried driving it for awhile too...

    ?????????????

You have to replace the sensor too, not just the pads BTW...

You have to unhook the battery for a few minutes.

Sure about that? I thought unhooking the battery discombobulate the radio or it's code, among other things?

If I remember correctly, the key is in the 2nd position and open the drivers door for 40 seconds. You should be able to confirm that in the DIY section.

You either have a bad new sensor or the rear brakes have hit the sensor. Light resets itself after a less than a minute with the key on engine not running. Check your work and make sure the connector is pushed together correctly.

Replace pads and sensors. The light will go away on its own after 30 seconds or so

Weird... I KNOW the rears are fine and the plug just plugs in. Shouldn't be rocket science here but the dang thing isn't turning off. Got the new sensor from BMW too... not a knock-off (unless they are selling them too! )

You may have to drive it to clear. I suspect 150-300 miles and the light will clear.

Send dabdibridgep a PM. I know he had this issue a couple of months ago. He drove and eventually it cleared. May be able to find out about how many miles until it cleared for him..

Turn key to accessory position (2), wait up to 60sec.
If light doesn't go out, something is wrong with your sensors.

No amount of driving is required to clear it.

I am giving you the real life answer. I have done hundreds of brake jobs and the light always goes out. Do you think you could give a customer his car back with the light on. I think someone has sheeted you and you fell for it. I won't step in that.

    Unhappy brake sensor light on

    Hi all,
Whilst driving home tonight I had the misfortune of going through a huge puddle which instantly lit the brake sensor light on the dash Only 3 weeks ago new discs and pads were fitted front and back and new sensors too , so I know all is well , however the bloody dashboard light wont go out
    Any ideas anyone
    Cheers
    Daz

Bad sensor or an old worn sensor was used. Water get on a sensor that was not replaced and corroded it where it was worn down. Check the sensors.

Bump to say thanks for a helpful, if dated, thread. Put a new sensor on my wife's 330Ci tonight. PO had replaced pads but not the sensor and a light had been on recently. After changing the sensor out, light was still on. Found this thread. Key to position #2 and waited under a minute with the driver door open (no way for me to tell if that's required) and it went out. Thanks guys.

Same issue for me. Replaced with a Genuine OE sensor and light didn’t go out after many starts and hundreds of miles racked in one trip. Finally turned itself off after I replaced the washer fluid pump and jerry rigged a torn air intake boot. I didn’t have the key in so not sure why it went out on its own. Go figure.
