This is correct...my post is the 3rd one you linked (I go by Evan on that board). I was aware of the broken search function on the site, but couldn't figure out a way to find my post without it. I don't know how you did it

My probability matrix was leaning towards 850idontno.
It's important to follow up, as I am also leaning towards walking back into "my lab" and investigating what a jig would look like, how production could be accomplished. As I have other priorities (!!!) I would not want to find out later that this duplicates what is already out there. Note carefully: I said investigate a jig, not build and sell parts.

    Getting closer

The field repair kit project has bubbled up sufficiently high on my to-do list that I've started sourcing tools and material that would allow for a short production run done in my home garage. I'm targeting 25 pieces of left-side but would be open to doing a few right-side. Most likely the pieces would be sold at break-even to forum members.

What would be really nice is if I had one or two busted door handles to work with, rather than me risking the functional one that's on my car. Having a few fresh old handles helps me to prove out the install process, enlightens me to mechanical variances and allows me to QA the production line. If you want to make a FREE contribution to the project, you will thereafter be referred to as the Cool Guy or the Hot Chick, your choice. Fyi, I can also receive (handle) donations at ARRWBTT-13.

I may have my old drivers' door handle pivot (the part that breaks) still from when I repaired my handle using 850idontno's kit. My pivot was all in one piece, just had the hairline cracks in it that allowed it to twist and not work properly.

I'll have to look when I get home. If I have it, it's yours if you want it. Let me know if you'd be interested, because I don't want to bother looking for it if you don't need it.

Don't bother. The pivot by itself is the one thing that is not useful. I can use everything else, frame, return spring, and plastic grommet.

    Ah, beta testing.
Well, I am the first sucker who takes their car apart hoping that it works and is idiot proof. After that samples get sent to Wuffer, etc. for comment and suggestion. Availability would be after sufficient review by senior members.

I've got an entire handle assembly with the usual crack in it right here, ready to go.
PM me your shipping address and I'll get it up to you.

    Thanks, that was immensely helpful.

The project has been riding along on the slow track, competing against The Next Big Thing, but a PM from a fellow desperato prompted me back into the shop to get the jig in shape. Materials are here for two-dozen pieces. The next steps are to test the output of the jig and to shave about 8 hours off the per-piece time. Requires a small investment in equipment.

Little late for me. Just replaced my drivers door handle a couple of weeks ago. I paid BMW 130€ (~$180) for a new handle with lock but had to reuse my micro-switches. RR was painless.

    Update

Here's a hazy schedule for y'all, especially those who have PM'd recently and are hanging on.

I'm still clearing out my to-do list and looking for garage space. For instance, right now I'm climbing out from under a Ford A4LD tranny overhaul so I can have my work bench back. Then (probably) I sink $1K into a TIG setup and get up to speed on that. I'm shooting for some output around mid-to-late March, possibly sooner. I'm looking forward to that myself.

Pretty damn close to the actual story stretching back 20 years.
