I sent you a message last night for a set. Just in case I last longer than my current door handles.
20 years ago I walked away from "a promising career" flying airplanes.
Thought it might be a thrill to start but would quickly settle into like driving a bus.
Fast forward over all the dull moments of a dull life, socal house is walking distance to Carlsbad CRQ, so my intent is to restart this expensive hobby.
I bring this up just for entertainment, how to transit NorCal->SoCal,
500 miles one way, rounding terribly.
1) E31: $100 fuel, 8 hrs. Leave way early, arrive for late lunch. No rental req'd. Cargo & passenger potential.
2) Club plane from SQL, @115knots: 6hrs total, $500 plane+landingfee+tiedown etc, $ rent car at CRQ or walk. Limited cargo, psgr vs fuel.
3) Commercial ticket to SanDiego, 30miles away: 5hrs total, $100/psgr, friends pickup then we steal their car. No cargo.
The one imperfection in the universe is that there is no major airline at CRQ although it does have a TSA capable terminal.
There use to be a highly convenient shuttle to Los Angeles LAX until the major swapped out their turboprops for regional jet thereby busting runway length.
Occasionally a small shop pops up, tries (and fails) to fill the void, but are typically running point-to-point to all the other glam towns (ie Vegas, Reno, Palm Springs, Scottsdale) in the southwest, but not the LAX majors feed.
Thanks, but the process involves GF interaction, and I'm the only one who can tolerate her without being paid to do so.
Everyone, think clearly now.
Do you really want to buy a precision DIY kit from this man?

Suddenly, a knock at the door.
Its the dreaded double-whammy.
Door handle material ++++PLUS++++ the CSC board (some assembly required)!!!*
* In fact its the uber-dreaded triple-whammy.
I am withholding the audio of GF shrieking for me to get my butt down to Socal to measure her new kitchen.
No rest for the wicked......
Desecrator of all things Sacred
And some assembly required.
There is a definite collision with Socal real estate so expect one-on-one communication starting after, say, the 17th.
Can't get back to everyone on same day.

Pivot (WIP) vs Socal project collision, the reason for the close out.

Dang, that's still not going to do it.
Bringing in more material for another run of 30.
Still looking for an exit.
****
Meanwhile I've started shipping from the current run.
Lol, the handle in the socal house pic was brought back to norcal only to get shipped right back down to an owner near the socal house.
Could have delivered it myself if it were finished at the time.

Sales and billing will be somewhat slow because its a one-man shop.
The salesman, fabricator, customer service and shipping department are all combined into one person.
I need a set please. Just sent you a PM. Thank you.
Status:
I'm running into a stiff head wind from the south and so only 15 have crawled out of the shop since "last call", leaving 35 left in back order.
The original back log from 4 months ago contained all "broken" stories, and these got priority.
Just now one of you clarified you are "broken" rather than "personal inventory".
Prediction: by the time I'm thru with the 50 and finally exit, another 5 or so broken's will announce.

8pivotalMoments@gmail.com goes direct to my business.
PM's go to BimmerForums, which is not my business.
yeah, I'm thinking I got into the "spam" box too....

Yes, you are in the que, however, not at the very, very front.
To get to that prime position, it will be adequate to send $1.75m.
You will receive not only the handle pivot, but also the keys to both front doors.

Thanks again Hyper for the sets! Got my first handle out to find a previous owners attempt to fix.....
Yes, that's not unusual.
I have many contacts where owner tries out the "Hyper" fix after a local shop takes a mulligan.

Got like two pivots out this week.
Lookin' for shop time, not findin' much.
Material and tooling are into storage, last shipments going out today.
There is no obligation to resume production.
If production did resume, it would be no sooner than mid-2019.
Out of approximately 45 pieces required to cover requests, I got to about 20, and most of these were "broken" stories.
In my estimation most of the remaining interest is for personal inventory, to defend against this loss of supply.
If production did resume, it would be for just to clear this backlog that was established by the close-out notification.
If you sent email, you will receive a redundant notification thru that channel.
Somewhere around 400 pieces were produced and I suspect some ended up in sock drawers,
so there might be some trading possible thru the E31 parts forum.
Ended up selling just one key for $1.73 million.
Please recall that I was architect and build labor for the house, furniture and landscaping, so this is how I got paid for being talented and attentive to details.

I gave GF the option to get out of UPB46, but she put in her 0.02 worth, kept us invested.
By comparison, the Lexus GS300 of 21 years lasted just a day and a half in Socal, then morph'd into a fresh MBZ C300 with 9 speeds.
Wrote a check.
So...
This means that although I'll continue with E31 related projects, all things cars take a back seat to me doing a comprehensive makeover on the next house.
On the down side for y'all, it doesn't look good for getting back into handle pivots in the near term.
On the up side, I will be constructing a dedicated car & machine shop with a lift and, long term, will be looking at M62B48 & MID box development.

NOOOOOO, so no more pivot pieces are being made? I took a hiatus from BF.com over winter as I as busy with work adn now I come back to miss out on this great manufacturing opportunity?
I swear, my cars are like a girlfriend.
Sometimes its a rough ride, sometimes its smooth motorin'.
Sometimes she doesnt like how i treat her and sometimes i dont like how she behaves.
BUT at the end of the day, she loves it when I am inside her.
Hyper, please don't give up on us... We need you. The kit I bought years ago for my 840 still works flawlessly but I just picked up an 850 that has the handle issue (Passenger side)... I need a kit!
There are others...

A clear case, dereliction of duty.

Currently 5:30AM, was scheduled to launch a Norcal trip at 10 this morning, among other things to "fetch my head".
Instead failed an update project whereby my Aerostar pulls a trailer on said trip.
Details: The trailer lighting relay panel on this 30-yr old van had never been used/tested, 2 out of 3 channels were inoperative, had to buy the last NOS unit on the planet, had to kill the trip
***
Fetch my head: The benchtop mill that I use to machine the handle pivot arms weighs approx 160lbs, originally lifted on to the bench using an engine crane, had to disassemble to carry it up stairs to a 2nd floor storage unit. So the 70 lb base is now in Socal, the 90 lb head in Norcal.
Long term, this bench top gets replaced with a much more substantial CNC, to be placed in the new shop bldg.
All other tools and material have been located.
Here, manually turning brackets for the E31 BBKoB biz, which got frozen a year before the handle biz.

Btw, don't buy a 2018 C300 sedan. You'll want the 2019 with new engine, updated turbo tech, slightly smoother power delivery.
{ed: Actually, you'll want to retain your big engine'd E31, as these small turbo'd motors are kinda annoying, not the same at all.}
While were in here...
To get my towing done I first tried buying a 2019 MBZ Metris, for $0.035 million, but their commercial/truck division seems to have issues.
I took my deposit back.
