I dropped the headliner from my 8 series last weekend and these two black clips fell into the rear seats. I was looking at real oem and the only part number I could find was 54121970334. They look similar but also quite different. I can see marks on the headliner board where the two prongs hooked into it but there’s only those marks at the center so I’m not sure where the second one goes.
Does anyone know how these are installed? I have new of the 16 other clips but I have no idea how these black ones go back in.

They look like the clips that hold the door cards in position on the top edge:

The back of the headliner does not use clips. It fits into the groove on the back top of the inside edge of the roof in front of rear window.

They are similar to those but not the same. They definitely came from the headliner because I heard them fall when the headliner came down.
Yeah that’s what I figured because I know other cars just hook it’s just weird that they came down with the headliner. Could they be used for something else on the roof/ sunroof?
Also wondering what clip 54121970334 is used for. Because it says on real oem there’s two needed.

I bet they may be the clips that either hold on the wire to the cell phone antenna, or the one clipping down the electric rear window heating element wires.

Did a little more investigating on the headliner and I found where they both were attached. One is in the direct middle and the other is offset to the left. I pointed at them with two samples of fabric. Attached a couple pictures. Still don’t really understand their function though

I bet those are for the clips that held the cell phone antenna cable. Was your cell phone antenna still on the back window? If not, then I bet a previous owner removed the antenna and pulled out the cable (unless the cable was still there). It originally went across the top of the rear window, then down the Driver's side C pillar into the trunk.

I think you guys are right. I bet it was for the cellphone antenna. I think the reason i didn’t think that is because the previous owner removed it so I forget the car had it.
I put the headliner in without those clips and no problems like you guys said. Thanks for the help
How difficult is it to drop the headliner?
Are you able to send some pics as to how this is supposed to look when connected properly? I had the headliner fabric replaced but the board is not attached by the rear windshield and as a result the end cover piece keeps falling off as well and it’s frustrating. Is there a video on how to reattach to board to the rear windshield area
Hi, in this video you will find all information you need: https://youtu.be/9w42qBDNMrA?si=wqOjthEXDMocCzzy

So it just overlaps at the rear and locks into place? No clips?
Anyone have a video of removing the rest including the sliding cover and the sunroof?
