Since there is a good amount of spoiler knowledge in here, forgive me for slight off topic but it may help others also:

M3 GT VS LTW rear spoilers--what's the difference? Are they the same spoiler, or are there differences? OEM VS OEM versions look very very similar...

There is LTW wing that's a little different, where the bottom spoiler doesn't stick out as much. Or at least that's what I saw somewhere, I forget what it's called though.

    From reading and gathering information.

OEM vs. Aftermarket: OEM is allegedly supposed to have a metal insert in the top part of the wing to support and eliminate sagging.

There are 3 types of wings I know of...

LTW = Base extends off the trunk, and has a 3rd brake light.

GT = Same thing as the LTW, just no 3rd light.

GT2 = base is flush with the lines of the trunk.

    Well from what I've found:

LTW low=GT (ignoring brake light) as far as styling goes. Perceived differences are due to poor reps.

GT II sits further inward on the trunk lid so that the brake light (not present on the GT) is flush with the end of the trunk lid.

    Correct if incorrect.

    Jvit27 is correct.

So let's make this thread more definitive since there's a lot of misinformation/confusion.

There are ONLY three class II spoilers ever made for the M3. If there are others, I'd love to know.

    ONE for the sedan without a third brake light = 51 71 2 268 552

    TWO for the coupes

    1. 51 71 2 489 685 WITHOUT third brake light. This is the one PTG hacks to get a third brake light in.
    2. 51 71 9 410 981 The one with a third brake light and sits flush with end of trunk.

There are no others except the Clubsport one. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...41&hg=41&fg=60

Very difficult to tell if the lower portion of the clubsport one is the same as the 981. If anybody has a picture of say a 320 or 328 euro model clubsport I'd love to see it.

The upper portions of all the wings are the same!

The sedan wing base is a bit narrower since the sedan itself is narrower than the coupe.

    The coupe is 67.3” wide
    The sedan is 66.9” wide

And out of curiosity, can someone post up some BMW literature that calls these wings "GT" wings. Regardless, we're all talking about the same 2 piece wings.

If anyone is interested, there is a mere handful of the pieces of the 552 kit that can be put together. After that, the Class II is history,

looks like the clubsport base is representative to the ClassII base...

I'm about to take some quality pics of my LTW for some comparison. FYI, there is no way in hell I'm going to take it apart to get some OEM numbers, sorry.

You have the 685 wing modified by PTG.

Yea, its been repainted. PTG was the ONLY one to officially put the brakelight in the 685 wing and those wings were ONLY white because they came with the M3 lightweight. Yours is one of those unless someone hacked in the brake light themselves which is highly unlikely.

I'm assuming by your comment that your car is black that you are trying to say it came from the factory that way, it did not.

Here's some way better pics of my OEM LTW wing for comparison/clarification...

Base with 3rd light and ID tag location.

Overhang. Notice the trunk, and top part of the wing are in perfect line.

And here is the light itself.. Made by Hella for BMW in 1995.

Yep, there is one tiny rock chip in the front of the wing where it is showing white. Damn road pollution!

    Ours is not OEM.
It is manufactured of Polyurethane and not fibreglass like the other replicas.

Yes. I'm pretty sure your car used to belong to a guy I knew..

This is what PTG did to the 685 (aka 'OEM LTW wing')
