excellent exactly what i needed to hear.

by hot wired..you mean an ignition switch/button..or just removing the red back off the ignition cylinder and turning it?

will the colors in the m50 harness match to the colors in the z3 body harness, possibly just moving a few around in the plugs? this is what i heard when i was looking to put this engine in my 95 ti, but not sure if it is still the same for the obd2 z3.

Yeah an ignition switch should work, but I'm not 100% sure what the Z3's security is like.

here we go again.. m44 out, m50 getting prepped and cleaned up, a/c bracket removed, stock header removed, will be brushing and degreasing it tomorrow removing all the unneeded engine bay brackets before dropping it in.

50 or so more hp..here i come

one thing.. i dont want to deal with this stock header, the flange bolts are seized up and i cut the exhaust off when i pulled it from the 325i. i have been checking out ebay headers..which is a good one to pick up? i'll drop $100 on one just to look better, and maybe add some power while i'm using this motor, besides like i said this oem header is rusted up.

so what header are you guys using?

Youll have to adapt the exhaust/fab a y-pipe, hog out the stud holes a bit to make it fit, get oem gaskets, and weld shut the heat shield bosses if yours have them, but they seem to be the best made, and they're reps of the euro supersprints....sooo big primaries, big tubing, make good power.

the material is a bit thin/cheap, my welder said he had a terrible time getting them welded without burning them up, went fast and way hot with a mig IIRC

any tubular header really would help, obx or raceland. even obd2 headers are better i remember hearing,

hmm.. that is about $100 more than the ones i was checking out on ebay that look pretty much the same design.

guess i'll grab one of them and get it on the way. mean time i'm going to pull the valve cover and strip and paint it..gotta look good even if for only a few months. plus it will give me a chance to see how the motor looks inside a bit.

figured i couldnt go wrong at $111.99 shipped...appears to be a copy of that eurosprint header and i couldnt beat the price.

bad part is, prob wont be here until i'm leaving for road atlanta next week

hey guys i need an m50 power steering pump.. the one on this motor was shot so i let it go to the crusher with the car.. anybody got one laying around for a few bucks?

no work today since yesterday i somehow ended up with a splinter of metal in my right eyeball...most likely drilling out the spot welds to remove the unneeded brackets in the engine bay. after suffering thru it all night i went to the ER this morning..7 hrs later no better and i have a Dr appt tomorrow..grr....

last time i had metal in my eye (workers comp then..and i had goggles on) they couldnt find it until it did start to rust

waiting for my right pupil to un-dilate so i could see to do anything else yesterday, i decided to pull the valvecover on the m50 and strip it. what a PITA.

new header wont be here til thursday, and guess what, i'm pulling out for road atlanta thursday morning.. so yea.. more car stuff next week.
