Question DIS v57 - Anyway to find/change Admin Calibrate Screen Password

I've had an image (vdmk) of DIS v57 and SSS v32 for a while & whilst experimenting installing Easy DIS v44.

I've become interested in possibly configuring DIS v57 for it to work in co-junction with the SSS image I have.

But now I realise that I don't have the Password for the DIS v57 image, it loads up in Vmware as normal.

But if I wanted to configure it like you have to configure DIS v44.

Admin > Calibrating On Screen > Password > Easy Dis Config Menu

To get it to possibly work I would have to know the password & as someone else has created the image the same way you do Easy Dis V44, they would have had to put there own 5 digit password in.

However when I bought the Disc off an eBayer, there was no password mentioned (probably the reason why they sold it!)

Is there any way I can find out the password, any file interrogation method?

    Or a default password?

Or would, if it works get into the DIS config menu by pressing CTRL + SYSRQ upon DIS start up?

I'd be interested to know if anyone else may have come across the same image, it originally came in a lot of RAR files & had to be unarchived, its around 6gb.

If I can change the password or configure it I'd like to know.

If not I will just delete it & look for an alternative method similar to the way Easy Dis v44 is compiled, using the GT1 disc & Base Files.

    Thanks in advance

Yes you can change the pass, you need to boot with OpenServer-5.0.7Hw-10Jun05_1800.iso DOWNLOAD

Mount the SCO CD and start the DIS. Remember to choose to boot from CD. Press Enter at the Boot: line.
It will boot then ask you to press Enter to begin the installation.
Accept the license and it will ask which CD to install from. Just take the defaults.
When you see the keyboard selection menu, press [Alt][F3]. The screen will change to all black and a prompt <Installation>.
    At this prompt type
    cd /hdFS/var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/*/etc
    then
    /hdFS/opt/K/SCO/Unix/*/bin/ed shadow
    Type these lines:
    P (turns on a * prompt)
1 (the root line will be displayed)
1,1c (this is a command to change line 1)
root::11628:0:0 [Enter] [Control-D](When you press ^D the * will appear)

    Question

    Cheers for that Beemer187

    That was a quick reply.

I suppose this disc & method will work for all versions of DIS password issues?

So when will I be asked to input a new password?

    Yes works on all versions.

    It will clear the password,
so if you start DIS and then CTRL + SYSRQ it will ask for login: root and then it will ask you if you want to enter a password, this will be your new password.

    Question

Great but can it reset this password option too??

    See pic.

Alternatively where could I get the v57 base files to use with v44 & create my own fresh image.

    Thanks.

I think you can change that pass too, but I don't know how to do that.

There is no Base v57, you need Base v52 after that install programs_v44.

    Question

Right I mounted the 'openserver.iso image' using Daemon.

    Opened Vmware.

The CD Drive is set to the Virtual Drive upon power 'ON'

Chose the DIS v57 machine & started the virtual machine.

Got the black screen 'openserver 5', with scrolling dots, as if DIS was loading.

Got to the BOOT line & it automatically carried on??

Not sure if the mounted image kicked in as its set to automatically boot upon detection?

Anyway I waited until I got the DIS message - this machine will be with you.

    I pressed CRTL + SysRQ

Took me to the UNIX login page.

I typed 'ROOT' at the login

As for the password, it wouldn't accept one, kept saying "Incorrect Login"

I tried again, this time pressing CTRL + SysRQ before the boot up sequence had finished.

    Took me to UNIX again:

    INIT : SINGLE USER MODE

Type control-d to proceed with normal
startup, (or give root password for system maintainence):

At this I typed 'password' - RESULTS as shown

    Login Incorrect

    (What is Control-d???)

    Wouldn't go any further!!

If you could clarify the steps again, thanks.

Do I let DIS FULLY boot up then INSTALL the Openserver Disc from within DIS??

I tried it another way & read between the lines on your initial instructions.

I ran the bios in vmware & changed the vmware boot order to CD drive 1st.

Mounted the image openserver iso & started vmware.

The ISO opened & started as you suggested.

I got to the US Keyboard option & pressed ALT + F3

Took me to the <Installation> Line

    typed in everything you mentioned

    cd /hdFS/var/opt/K/SCO/Unix/*/etc - RESULT DOESN"T EXIST??

    then CARRIED ON ANYWAY

    /hdFS/opt/K/SCO/Unix/*/bin/ed shadow - NOT FOUND??

AGAIN I CARRIED ON JUST IN CASE...

    P (turns on a * prompt)

1 (the root line will be displayed)

1,1c (this is a command to change line 1)

root::11628:0:0 [Enter] [Control-D] (When you press ^D the * will
    appear)

    w

    q

AGAIN THE RESULTS WERE THE SAME NOTHING HAPPENED??

    ************************************************** **

I' m not sure of the keyboard commands that are listed above.

    control-d , etc..

I don't see how I can have the openserver running at the same time as DIS as you initially suggested?

As I'm thinking the openserver image that installs works into the working DIS image machine??

Bit confusing to be honest, it may be as well getting a fresh image of the base v52 files you mention & creating my own.

So basically anyone who has a working version of DIS v57, has had to do it by using the method you described earlier?

    Cheers for you help.

This is the correct method to do, so you need to mount the iso in the DIS vmware image, make sure this iso boots up, not DIS vmware image.

    and then

I got to the US Keyboard option & pressed ALT + F3

Took me to the <Installation> Line

    Till here everything is correct.

RESULT DOESN"T EXIST?? Did you really typed the word/command correctly? Like: hdFS - hd then capital FS ? Everything is case sensitive.

    Try it again

If you've got the same DIS57 image as me the dealer password and root password is 12345. However the Calibrating Touchscreen login throws an error (error 2).

That means the easy setup doesn't work - but you can configure the system fine using the console login.

    Question

    Re:Jason535d

I tried that password 12345, it doesn't work.

I tried the console login too with

    login:root
    password:password

    Still doesn't work.

I will try Beemer187 method, if that doesn't work.

    Re: Beemer 187

I'm not sure what you mean about loading the openserver iso up on the DIS image??

Do you mean set the vmware bios to boot from cd, and after I mopunt the openserver iso in daemon tools it will run auto like I already did earlier?

If not, how can I load it up in the DIS image?

I will continue to use Easy DIS v44, at least that's working ok!!

    Thanks for the replies.

If you bought this version of DIS V57 chances are it is not built on an Easy DIS Base. In which case if you want to log on to the UNIX operating system to change the ediabas.ini file & remote host file & change the Scoadmin network adapter the all you have to do is press Ctrl & SysRq together.

I have typed how to do this in this thread already:

    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...312104&page=11

It is almost the same as the Easy DIS method with the exception of the Scoadmin bit.
1996 320iC: leather, full elec hood, hard top, auto-dim, sport, revised front grilles, rear head rests (in storage now)

    Thumbs up Solved

I'm happy to put Dis v57 on the shelf.

I have Easy Dis v44 working & am happy to keep using.

Thanks for all replies on the matter.

I won't be experimenting with Dis V 57 any further.

The Beemer187 method worked relatively close after a few tries.
    The password is now reset.

At the calibration screen, CTRL + SYSRQ also works.
Be aware that you will be asked for a password of your choice or one generated by Unix.

Take a few screen images to see the process of new password adjustment.

Be quick because the machine powers-down in a few moments.
Here's the new problem. The DIS running in the Unix environment within a VM wants to close very quickly.
I can type root and also type the "PASSWORD" and if quickly enough, type scoadmin and see the Unix Console.

A few moments later, the VM begins to power-down.
This process can be repeated many times with the same results. The password reset does work.
The version I'm using is v57 that was in Russian and have it now running in English.

The key to this mystery is to have the Unix operating system stop powering-down and adjust the settings in the Unix console.

It is that setting that needs to be searched for and adjusted.

Any way to reset or know the password on a Genuine Group Tester? I have a working setup that I just installed a new touch screen on and would like to calibrate the touch.

I will pull the drive and attempt a vmware boot with the cd image reset if not.

Administration password (calibration, not root) is the dealer number (set during installation)! I once saw the dealer nr. stored in file somewhere (plaintext) while browsing through a virtual machine disk, but can not remember anymore... I never found a procedure to reset it anywhere, but you could attach the drive to a virtual machine, run SCO openserver install CD, mount the volume or chroot to it and browse through it. Structure is simmilar to linux, many of the commands are the same.

Worst case: reinstall. You'd need Install cd 1.1, base52, programs 57 (or base 44 and programs 44). But the HDD needs to be the original one for this to work (the "weird" 20 GB one). If it was swapped for a regular 30 or 40 gb drive, you will need modded installation media.

EDIT: look at the dosmnt partition (the small FAT16 partition) it should be visible to windows (-XP) or linux.

EDIT2: I think this is it (This one is from one of my installs, so yours obviously won't be 012345):

    gt1dealer-number.jpg
*I used Hiren's boot CD here.

And here it is in "disadm" on a running machine (you need to reset root password first to get here):

    disadm1.png disadm2.png

Changing it here does not appear to reset it, though.

If anyone attempts to recover the dealer number from their machine and use it as the administration password, please report back! I am curious wheather it worked for you or not.

Thank you Z! I will mess around with this tonight. I'm trying to clone the original 4,200rpm IDE laptop drive to a 2.5" IDE SSD. I already have the drive out and will look for that file.
