Talking Dinan CAI installation on a 99-01

Very long day as it took me 3 and half hours to install it and another 2-3 hours messing with it (test drives and removing the sock or leaving it on)..
Overall it L@@ks great and growls at good speeds but I dont feeel the thrust of any power gains. I know I know ...I need the stage 2 Dinan software..I will be getting the Dinan throttle body and exhaust then the software..Thats when I know I will feel something...Closes I can get to a supercharger...
    Starting the day

I Removed the headlights cause mine were bouncing in the night when my car wasn`t. I knew I didnt put those damn screws underneah the lights in right...so yall can skip this step..

    Remove the airbox

    Remove the MAF

CLean MAF with CRC MAF cleaner spray...Do Not dry with q-tip or anything else..Let it AIR DRY...BTW go JETS!!!!

Remove the 2 hoses leading in to the airbox

Grab 10mm and remove the bolt holding the airbox

Time to get the bumper off...Remove the 2 inside 8mm screws on inside of wheel well. Remove both driver and passneger sides

Get a 50 torx and remove the 2 long bolts from underneath the bumper

Remove the fog lamps and un-plug

Slide the bumper out a bit to unplug 4 PDC wires if u have it

after u unplug the 4 PDC wires remove the bumper outward. U can have someone help you but I obviously did it by myself. I used a thick blanket to protect it

remove the old airbox lower tube. Theres 2-10mm bolts holding it

Unplug the secondary air pump inlet hose and wiring underneath

Instructions say to cut the lower thick plastic mount...

I used a hacksaw blade....very easy to use

All finsihed---Time to test the fitting by sliding the tube from underneath. Also u can see u need to shorten your hacksaw strokes
because u can see the air pump right below it...

    the piece i cut out

Time to remove and relocate the secondary air pump. Start by removing these 3-10mm nuts. You can see the 3 nuts I removed already
The 3 nuts holds the Secondary air pump .. Make sure unplug it as well. Plug is underneath the bottom of pump.

remove the inlet hose off the pump ..

once out...remove the 3 -10mm nuts ..Leave the rubber stems(shocks) on the pump- Discard the metal bracket

Insert the small inlet filter and slide the other end onto the secondary pump. Make sure u dont use anything to help it slide on. Instructions say to slide it on dry...

mount the 2 metal brackets onto the pump. Install the 1 with the round end 1st. The install the second small bracket last

important that you install the long end on the pumps end

Only tighten the 2/3 10mm nuts that doesn't have the small bracket attached to it. You want to keep it semi loose so u can maneuver the Secondary air
pump away from the K&N filter. Once u have the filteron the tube then u can tighten the 3 nut.. Notice the clean pump- l@@ks like NEW

    discard the old inlets hoses

The headlight`s Mount will share the secondary air pump long bracket so remove the 1-10mm nut off and place the end of the bracket there and tighten. Sorry for this picture as I only took the pic to show location. At this time I had remove the bracket that holds the headlights in place....U dont have to do
    remove the headlight bracket

insert the dinan tube up underneath and thru the newly cut hole. Mount the tube with the supplied new 10mm bolt. The location is where the old stock tube was mounted before. Dinan supplies this new bolt.

Reinsert thesecondary hose for the secondary pump

Now tighten the loose 10mm nut underneath..U will need to lay down to get to this, lol

Organize the wires to the Secondary airline wire plug, PDC, Fogs and the temp sensor around the tube and install large Dinan filter on.. Dinan supplies the large round bracket to tighten the filter onto the large hollow tube

Make sure u push the filter all the way to the top. Well the most furthest it can go- I had to remove the bumper again because I couldn`t push in the fog light ...that was a bummer.....
Insert the Dinan Sock....the Dinan filter and inlet come pre-oiled...Oh make sure u plug in the secondary air pump`s power harness as shown...

all ths is garbage now...dont mind the fog

put the bumper back on and all the other stuff, pdc etc....after that now finish the top section and slide in the rubber fitting on the tube and the MAF..

    All Done
    oh..install Dinan supplied sticker

I have 2 Youtube videos...1 normal start up with stock airbox and second with Dinan CAI
I ll edit this thread later to post em as I cant view Youtube from work...Gotta go and make $$$

Nice work, and thanks for the write up!

I wonder if you would feel any improvement if you had the non-vanos intake as well. I noticed a difference when I installed that intake, so I imagine this would only add to it.

    Very cool.

Yup... I did a write up on it several months ago. Probably worth taking a look at it. You should plan on buying some stainless hardware and you will need to buy a single large bolt to plug a hole on the side of the non-vanos manifold.

Fabian, at least when you order the supercharger, you won't need their CAI. : ) Great work!! You'll really feel it when you get the Dinan engine and tranny software!! You gotta do that next!!!!

I would have the CAI, but Dinan doesn't make one for our 7's before 06/95 production cars....my production date: 01/95.

The CAI takes a different route as the s/c goes where his new CAI is, so he will need to sell it if adding a blower.

Here is the supercharger plumbing: (press Slideshow at lower left)

To shled, didn't even think of the supercharger being on that side! I wish they would lower the cost on those superchargers......crazy expensive!! Fabian, let us know if your fuel mileage got better.
