I'm guessing that for most of us the E38 is the main mode of transport, clocking 35k+ miles a year. Add to that the fact that most of us probably have E38's because we couldn't afford anything "better" and fell in love with the car in the process. This really begs the question of fuel economy. I'm not sure what the prices of gas are in the US but in Europe, running an S62 E38 at that milage would cost around $45/100 miles. That's $15k in gas alone each year.

To put it short, an M5 would not only handle that power better but be more fun to drive and in the long run probably cheaper too if you were to use the E38 daily and M5 for having fun. I'd love to chuck an S62 into my E38 but the cost of the engine and swap is just the tip of the iceberg.
Why get an M5 that any one can get from the dealer? why not have the space and a sleeper while @ it? with a 3:46 or 3:91 Lsd on a 7

What did the conversion run you? Did the mount points match up?

I'd be certain that the M73 5.4 V12 available in the 750i would be a far heavier engine than the S85 V10 that comes in the E60 M5.

What are the details of this build?

Is the S62 being mated directly to the original E38 gearbox or is the E39 6 speed manual being fitted as well.

Any chance of explaining the nuts and bolts of the build? How exactly are you getting it to work? Wiring, mapping etc. And also what happens to the pedal box. How do fit all the mechanisms for the clutch pedal and gear change etc?

Lots of questions but I'm sure that there is quite a few that would be interested also.

    Thanks in advance.

S62 = 3-6k on Ebay depending on mileage
6 spd = 2-5k on Ebay depending on mileage
Many, many hours of custom work and fabricating to get it working.... Little to no documentation to help you.

    Net result: 5-11k = Cool E38 with S62 making around 400HP

    Or

Buy a supercharger for 6-11K and get 400HP+ in about 12-20 hours of well documented install with a tech support line to call.

I am not saying that the S62 is not a totally wicked mod, but I am saying that unless you get a smoking deal on an engine and transmission, have a ton of time and resources, the SC option is probably more cost effective and far less troublesome.

    There's no replacement for displacement.

Don't forget to add a slushbox rebuild after it inevitably fails from the extra HP. But I see your point.

This S62 swap is a dream of mine.
