need help for M3 hood latch

My cousin just called me last night saying that his dad's M3 hood is stuck. He forgot to place the fuse cover back and closed the hood. Because of the fuse cover is in the way, (from the front of the car) the right hood is now higher and latch is open, while the left latch is locked. He tried to release the latch switch both from inside and from the front of the car, the left latch just won't release. Any BMW guys know how to release the left latch before he takes it to the dealership?

I would try pushing down on the hood to take the tension off the latch while attempting to release it.
Other than that, dunno.
