I just got an email from Tim B., the guy who alerted Jalopnik to the Cincinnati Baur. He has sent along a few pics, and said it looks better in person, the interior is pretty good, it does appear to be the dogleg transmission (although he was not able to drive it to confirm this), and the seller seems to be a pretty good guy.
Thanks, Tim!

Thanks to Baur owner Jeff D. for the heads up on this ebay listing for the Baur in New Mexico. we have previously posted the craigs list ad for this car on our blog.
Stroker engine, dogleg transmission, white. Are you reading this, Charbel?

This is a RARE BMW E21 323i Baur cabrio. These cars weren't imported in the US (hence, rare) -- they are gray market. That means someone personally imported them at great expense (federalization costs A LOT).
Baur (Stuttgart Germany) modified a limited number of these cars, and NONE of them were sold to the US market.
This car was imported to the Bay area, and for the past ~9 years it's been in NM. It is a RUST FREE garage queen with a clean, straight body.
It is a manual transmission, manual windows, power mirrors.
White with black tops, black cloth Recaro seats.
It has a 5 speed dogleg manual transmission -- most people have never seen (let alone driven) such a tranny -- reverse is where first gear normally is; first is where second normally is, etc. The transmission adds to the rarity of this car.
The engine is an M20 from an early 90's 325i, which was rebuilt with an Ireland Engineering 3.0L kit (9.8:1 pistons), Schrick 272 cam, and +1mm valves. Big bore throttle body from Ed Mazula, Cold air intake. The engine management/DME is Motronic, from a 1990 325i.
I relocated the battery to the trunk to improve the weight distribution.
I purchased the engine with ~20k miles on it after the car it was in was rear-ended and totaled. For more information on the engine, look up the (infamous) 3.0L stroker by davelength on the BMW E21/E30 boards.
This is a lightweight, fun car. This car has never been tracked or autocrossed while in my possession -- it is too rare for such activities. Owned and maintained by a BMWCCA member (me).
New parts:
Distributor cap and rotor
Alternator
Performance spark plug wires
O2 sensor
Crank position sensor
Battery
Hoses
Clutch
Clutch slave
Guibo
Engine mounts
Gaskets
Fuel injectors were cleaned and refurbed
Body has just over 100k miles on it.
Has stainless brake lines and stainless Ansa exhaust
Python alarm with proximity sensor
Extras included (if you are interested):
Extra targa top (try finding one these days)
Complete original 323i engine (and engine stand)
A/C from a 320i (not installed)
MANY E21 and E30 parts"
Paul, the owner, is known to us.

Thanks, once again, to HarryPR and some folks at the recent Tedfest in Ontario, we have been able to identify another North American Baur: 1982 e21 315 Baur, baur plate #4446!
Welcome to Peter C. of Canada, the proud owner!Peter told me that it spent most of its life in CA, and came to Canada about 5 years ago. The engine has been rebuilt. We will work on getting his car onto the International Baur Registry.
And HarryPR.... you da Man, once again! Thanks, Harry!

Ok, here are a few posts that I have put up about the recent Vintage at Saratoga, July 14, 2012. As you may know by now, it was a great success with about 100 beautiful vintage cars on the grounds of the Saratoga Automobile Museum. The Museum, btw, was running a great exhibit "Moonshine to Millionaires: NASCAR History, Heroes & Technology", which is worth seeing in its own right!
We also had the greatest turnout of Baurs that we have seen in the US to date: 6 E21 TC1 Baurs, and 1 E30 TC2 Baur. We are still trying to track down the report that there was ANOTHER Baur present but parked separately due to a late arrival. That would make an unbelieveable EIGHT Baurs! That is a phenomenal showing for the E21 Baurs! Thanks to all who attended... we have set a high bar that will be tough to top!
But we are just getting started!
So, without further ado....

Baurspotters Alert! Unidentified Baur spotted in NH MA area!
I found a post from a few months back in r3vlimited stating that there was an E21 Baur in his shop recently. I have sent the person who posted this a PM, and I await his response.
In the meantime, I wanted to alert our Baurspotters in the NH/MA area---- yes I am thinking of YOU, THE POOLEMAN!---- as well as anyone else up that way to be on the lookout for this Baur:
That post is from March 2012, so it is a couple of months old. If anyone has any info on this Baur, please email me or post it in E21 Bimmerforums.
It is not an Alpina, of course, but it apparently has some Alpina features, as you can readily see.
here is what the poster (kway from Nashua NH, btw) said about the car:
There's a nice e21 323i Baur at my current shop as I write this. Open lug Alpinas, originally Hennarot but some fool painted it Brilliantrot at some point. I'll snap a few camera phone pics next week and post them in here.
Here's that 323i I was talking about. I'm not an e21 guy, not a Baur guy, but I have to say this is a pretty cool car (not a genuine Alpina, just has some goodies on it).

Tom,
I emailed you a photo of Wil's plate here in ATL. Not sure if I have the correct email addy.
BH
At long last, we can now assign a correct Baur plate number to Wil Bryant's beauty!
Thanks to the efforts of BruceH we now know that this is Baur #3596.... and ... since it is not listed on either the International Baur Registry, nor on any of the Baur lists that we have, it constitutes a NEW FIND! Even though we have known about about it, as the attached post notes, since way back at the beginning!
Thank you, BruceH!
OOPS! I guess that post isn't dated here, but it is from 12/10/2010 in this thread.... page 3! Thank you, HarryPR!
And here is that famous pic of BruceH and Wil's Baurs together. Thanks again, BruceH!

You are welcome.
What is the current Baur count in the USA?
The count was 80, but it needs to be reviewed. I will try to get to it this week.
And I have anotherquestion for you. I came across this a while back:
"Bruce from 2007 bimmerforums: "Don't forget WilBryant's and bill Rutger's Baurs will appreciate too. Between the 5 of us we prob have 5 of the top 10 Baurs in the US. There is another one dying a slow death here inATL. It is also a 320/6. "
Who is Bill Rutger? Is that another Baur somewhere, or is it included in the count already
