This 1984 BMW 323i Baur TC Cabriolet/Targa Convertible is a very unique and and quite special European only model. It has just over 117K miles, the canvas on the rear has been replaced years ago and looks great, everything else is original, obviously needs new upholstery. We own this car since 1985.

There it is! Photo taken about 3:30pm this afternoon by Brian.

Found: 4 Wheel Drive Baur-Style Convertible--- Made in the USA!
THIS IS NOT A MISPRINT!
Thanks to Mike and Lore E. out in the Puget Sound area, we have info on a 4 wheel Drive Baur-style Convertible---- think E30 325iX Baur!--- that was not only made in the USA, but it has been right under our noses for over 30 years! it actually PREDATES the TC2 Baur 325iX!
Who can identify this car?
Hint: it was a collaboration with the folks who gave us the TVR Griffith!

That appears to be an Eagle made by AMC (American Motor Corp) bought out by Mr. Iaccoca of Chrysler and promptly run right into oblivion...
Remember the Gremlin...
I still drive daily with no commute...
The Hazard is All, Praise the Hazard!
Bingo!
Here is a little more info:
http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/p/non-bmw-baur-or-baur-type-top.html
My information is that only about 200 of these 'coach convertible' 4 Wheel drive Eagles were ever converted. That makes it pretty rare, but that also means that there were almost twice as many of these Eagles built as there were BMW E30 325iX Baurs!
The comparison between the E30 325iX Baur and this Eagle Sundancer should probably end right there. AMC seemed to have a gift for building 'ugly ducklings', and this Eagle is no exception.
I just did a cross country craigslist search for an Eagle Sundancer and came up with nothing. Rare as hen's teeth. I confess that, in spite of its shortcomings, it is an interesting and unique car. I can picture it parked in the sand on a California beach with surfboards strapped to the roll bar. A great little car for a surfin' safari!
Jeroen's 325iX Baur (one of them)
the Eagle 4 Wheel Drive Sundancer (drive train similar to the Jeep, btw.)
Note those square headlights!

Well it's happened again!
A Hartge TC2 Baur last seen in Nebraska a while back... turns up looking beautiful, and FOR SALE in Everett WA this week!
That's right, the Baur for sale in the post above .... Turns out to be one that Jeroen had listed as MIA (missing in action).
It just happened this afternoon and evening over in the E30 forum, but it is a great story, so I thought Baur fans here would like to hear about it.
Check out the play-by-play, as it unfolded:
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...3#post24212363
starts around post #379 on page 16. Jeroen made it happen! Kudos to Jeroen and Team Baur!
I will do a full story in Baurspotting when I get a little more time ( I love these stories, as you have probably figured out), but I did put up a quick fun blurb about it just now:

OK, Baurhunters. Here are three pics of a white Baur from Oregon. You may recognize the last two pics: they are the white Baur that conkitchen bought in Oregon, brought to CA, and then transfomed into the red Baur that is now owned by docjohn in Arizona. That Baur bears the Baur tag 2565 which was once owned by Michael Baur.
The first pic is a white Baur from Chicken Saw, Oregon in 2007. It is a 1981 323i baur - with a full zender kit and recaros. Check out those wheels. Are these pics all the SAME car?
How many white Baurs could there be in Oregon back in 2007-09?
And, of all the white Baurs in Oregon, how many of them have identical wheels?
Coincidence? I think you can see where I am going with this.
Stay tuned.... Baurspotting is on the case!

It is true. The car went back. If that car ever comes up for sale, any prospective buyer should talk to me first.
Although the experience with this Baur was unsavory, two good things came out of it. First, I bought a another car last summer for $400 with the idea of it being a parts car and it has turned out to be a great car. Second, learning the history of this particular Baur led me to a fine individual who offered me some unused Eibachs. He's a real decent guy who has been back and forth to the Middle East doing work on behalf of America and the world.
Have turned my attention to this low mile, rust-free, Scottsdale delivery, '77 320i sunroof coupe. It is too good to use for parts, so I've swapped out the automatic for a 5speed, overhauled the entire suspension and steering, including new(old stock) Eibachs and new Bilsteins, and a header. Soon, off to alignment and exhaust shop. Should be a runner after that. Then will turn my attention to cosmetics. It will need a new interior and some freshening of the body and paint.
If anybody has black interior panels, armrests, etc., I'm interested.
I'll continue with my interest in Baurs and will continue to follow this thread. I really enjoy the enthusiasm of this group. Who knows, maybe there is another Baur in my future.
Congrats on the 'parts' car that turned into a keeper! I love hearing those stories! It looks pretty good already, and it sounds like you are doing it up right! Kudos!
I am also sorry to hear the way that the Baur turned out for you. I remember you had some concerns a while back, and I was wondering how you were making out with it. I hope it worked out satisfactorily, considering the circumstances. Could it be driven, or did it need to be trailered back to the seller?
It at least looks like you got a keeper out of the deal, even if inadvertently!

It could have been driven, but it was shipped. When you consider the time and fuel costs, its probably a cost-effective way to go. Fortunately, this was not my expense.
