    Hello Tom,

    thanks for welcome

I'm happy that I found this thread. It's very interesting, also the blog and the google-map.....great job!!!

On weekend I will check the google map and this thread from beginning.

I have seen, Jeroen posted some pictures from the last BAUR-Meeting of the BMW-TC-Club in Germany.

Maybe it's interesting too: Last year the Company of BAUR would been 100 years old. Together with BAUR-friends we organized the 100-Year-BAUR-Event. Some picture , specially TC1 you will find here:

    http://www.baur-tc1.de/tc1-12-09-2010.html

...and album of the meeting completely with other BAUR-Cars of 100-Year-BAUR: http://www.100jahre-baur.de/treffenbilder.php

    best regards

    Stephan

    Baurspotter Spots One!

    Look what I found!

    http://reggiesmotorworks.com/?p=2265

I think it is the black TC2 that appeared in some pics at the Vintage last month. Reggie's Motorworks of Indiana brought a black 318i Baur. I just need a frontal pic to confirm the front license, which was Baur TC, if I recall correctly. It's gotta be the same one!

    -------------------------
    UPDATE: Bingo!
    http://reggiesmotorworks.com/?p=2268
Scroll down to see reggie's pics from the Vintage, including several front pics of his black TC2 Baur. That is the ONE!

    The Other Connecticut Baur

I attended the BMCCA Connecticut Valley Chapter Ice Cream Social held tonight today in my region of Ct. Good turnout 15-20 cars, nice bunch of fellas. I was the only E21, naturally, and, as a Baur, I was kind of a curiosity. Nice Z3 M coupe, a supercharged Z3 M convertible (320 HP), several nice later model M3 and M5s, and an 840.

The big news is that I made a contact there who I hope will be able to Put me in contact with the only other known Baur owner listed in CT, a 1978 320i. And I hope he will then contact me, and we can add him to the list of identified Baurs in the US!

This is the Baur that was spotted by Davey101 at a CT BMW event in 2009. It was posted in this thread on 4/3/2011. That BMW event is coming up in early July, so I hope we can make contact, and welcome another Baur member into the fold!

    Stay tuned!
    The 4/3/2011 post is below:

The owner probably thought I was insane taking so many pictures lol

    --------------------------------
All of the above was posted by Davey101 in the E30 bimmerforum. It is listed in the International Baur Registry, but not as a US Baur. That makes it a New Find! Thank you Davey101!!

It also has CT plates, so it evidently belongs to a neighbor of mine! The pics look like they were taken at Wickham
Park, Manchester CT, where I brought my Baur to a BMW show last July. Not sure yet when the pics above were taken.

    Does anyone know this car?

    Here is the link:

I posted it on my blog also:

I have just received a call from the owner of the other Baur in CT. Very nice gentleman from northern CT. His car is a silver 1978 320/6, Baur number 0048---- one of the earliest made! We made a plan to bring our Baurs to the BMWCCA CT Valley Chapter club show on July 10, in Manchester CT! Two TC1 Baurs in one local show!

Alfonso said his car is registered with the International Baur Registry, so we should be able to get some other pics there!

    Welcome, Alfonso!

    New Baur Find!

Here is a previously unlisted Baur, now for sale in Edinburgh, Scotland: a 1981 320; Baur #2229.

It is listed on eBay in the UK:
    http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/vie...d=170663899106

If the link doesn't work try the item number appended to the end of the link. Hopefully we can get this into the international Baur Registry, and it will go to a good home.

    Lawrence Charlemagne Contacted!

Thanks to a clue I followed on joe's motorsports site (http://www.joebmwmotorsport.com/) I contacted Joe Zeppieri, and explained that I was trying to contact Lawrence Charlemagne. I explained what we are doing here and on Baurspotting, and the upcoming BMW Show in CT on Sunday, and he offered to call Lawrence on pass all of this on to him. The result was about a half hour later, Lawrence himself called me back, and we had a wonderful conversation about Baurs for 15-20 mins or so. You were right, Harry. He is a real nice fella..... And he remembered you from The Vintage in 2010!
He does have a 1979 Baur, originally a 320/6, but he now has an E30 M20 engine in it. Unfortunately, he won't be able to make it to the BMW Show in Manchester this Sunday, because his Baur is currently in storage. We will keep in touch, and he will get me the Baur number the next time he checks up on the car. He has owned it for about 20 years, btw, and has done a lot to bring it back. He says that it runs great, but he just hasn't put many miles on it.

It's A Small World Department: Lawrence attended the Vintage this year(with his turquoise 2002) and he is now the owner of those Baur windows that were mentioned in here several times. ( Was it GSCReno who offered them? I will have to check back.) those windows were from the Baur that was owned by Michael Baur, .... The Baur plate for which is owned by member conkitchen as part of his project....and whose car is currently for sale!!! You need a scorecard to keep up with this stuff!!
Anyway, I was very pleased to finally make contact with Lawrence, and I look forward to getting together with him at some future BMW event. And to check off another Baur as confirmed and located.... Although we still need to get that Baur number finalized. I am confident that we will have that before very long.

Welcome, Lawrence, and thank you. He may also have some Baur parts for sale, if anyone is in need. Let me know.

Thanks for the update, and congrats on the sale. Is John F. a member here?

I will update the map this weekend. Wow, that seems like a fairly long drive to Scottsdale , no?

Please clarify for me again.... To make sure I get it accurately. What is the Baur number of the car that you sold, and is now enroute to Arizona?

    Thanks.

Correction: it was SRC60 who had the Baur windows at The Vintage, not GSCReno. SRC60 is the person that Lawrence Charlemagne got the Baur windows from.

Glad you were able to get in touch with Lawrence, Tom! It's good to know that he has some parts available, since I may need some when I start refurbishing my Baur.

BTW, this Sunday (weather permitting) I will be taking a drive in the Baur with a few other local Bimmerheads to see the local museum holding the largest private collection of VW's in the world.

    Check it out here:

I do plan to keep in touch with Lawrence, and to get more specifics on what parts he may have to offer. I will probably add a "Baur Parts For Sale" page to the Baurspotting blog, to provide a focused, dedicated site for Baur parts. Lots of places offer E21 parts, but who has Baur-specific parts?

Your planned Sunday drive sounds great, I hope the weather cooperates. Who knew such a huge VW Museum was located in San Juan???? Looks very cool. Have fun!

Smile Baur, formerly conkitchen's, with new home in Scottsdale

Thanks to conkitchen for helping me coordinate the purchase of the '79 320i Baur. He was most generous with his time to install new hoses, belts, front discs and a few other service items so that I could make a journey from the San Fransisco, CA area to the Phoenix, AZ area.

The trip was almost without incident: things got a little hot in standstill traffic in a detour through Bakersfield. I had to shut it down on the shoulder. Later, I cleared debris from the radiator and things ran cooler. The next day, the engine completely stopped on two occassions at highway speeds in the middle of the desert, like it was out of fuel, and I sat on the shoulder again for a while. Each time it started up again and ran. I stopped in Quartzite, AZ to contemplate the options with conkitchen counseling me by phone. Since there were no parts and no trailers available in this town, I chanced the rest of the drive home and had no incidents.

Perhaps it was a bit foolish to take the vehicle through such paces, but all's well that ends well and the experiences may have allowed me to identify some important service concerns. Conkitchen thought the engine cutting out was a fuel pump problem. I've been digging through the forums and can see some other ideas as well, and I'll appreciate any advice from forum members.

Ultimately, I hope to offer a good home in the desert where there will be virtually no rust issues and where I'll give it a garage of its own.

Got some good news relative to getting the Baur registered. There's a collector car exemption in Arizona which should keep me from having to hook up the smog pump and go through emissions compliance which could be a huge pain. All I'll have to do is secure a collector's car policy which I'm getting from Hagerty for $217 per year. Arizona is big on individual rights, like access to guns. This collectors exemption is one right that I'm quite proud of.

    HB 2357 amends Arizona Revised

    Statutes (ARS) Section 49
    542 by
exempting vehicles that are at least 15
years old or are of a unique and rare
design and that carry collectible vehicle
insurance that restricts the mileage and/
or use of the vehicle (

    ‘‘collectible
    vehicles

’’) from emission testing in both
Area A (i.e., the Phoenix area) and Area
    B (i.e., the Tucson area).

That sounds good, when compared to the stories we often hear about the emissions regs in California. The laws vary widely from state to state.
Here in CT, all cars over 25 years are exempt from emissions testing. Any car at least 20 years old can obtain an "Early American" plate. All cars must be insured, of course, but there are no stipulations regarding 'collector 'insurance... So there are no limitations of use or mileage. CT does not require passenger vehicle inspections of any kind. (I still can't quite believe that one, but it is true.) Inspections are only required for emergency vehicles, school buses, etc. I bought my Baur in VA, and all I had to do to register was show insurance, bill of sale, title (if available) and have state inspectors verify the VIN. And pay the fee, of course. And I use it as a daily driver. CT makes it very easy (knock wood).

    Rare Baur TC1's

Those following this thread know that I acquired a '79 320i Baur from Conkitchen about a week and half ago. I took it to a local drive-in auto show that's been around for many years at the the "Pavillions" shopping center in Scottsdale. I thought I'd see if there were any enthusiast around and I was interested in what reaction people had to the Baur.

This car has great bones, but is not any kind of show condition (see previous image posts). Nonetheless, a couple of BMW owners coralled around: a 2002 roundie in very nice condition, an E34 M5 that is being well cared for and upgraded for performance. There were people with cameras out, commenting that'd they'd never seen one before, and there was some good conversation.

It was a great experience, and it bolsters my enthusiam for bringing this TC1 Baur back to life.

I just got my new front license plate, and decided to make it my avatar. . Check it out, over to the upper left corner of this post.

Afonso, owner of Baur #A000048, attended the Vintage at Saratoga yesterday. He did not bring his Baur, but he did meet Lawrence Charlemagne, who has been mentioned a number of times in here as a NY Baur owner. He also met a new E21 Baur owner, George K. of Saratoga, NY. George has just completely restored a beautiful Baur, and he also has a Baur parts car. I have now spoken to Afonso, Lawrence and George, and I will be posting a lot of information that I learned from them in the next few days. I was hoping to do that today, but I had relatives visiting all afternoon, and I was unable to get to it. I have lots of pics of George's Baur, as well as many pics that he sent me from the Vintage show.... And Lawrence's beautiful 2002 appears in a couple of them. I haven't yet mastered the technique of uploading pics from the iPad to the forum, so I will have to do it from my work PC.

Lawrence informs me that his Baur number is A000872-05. He has owned it for about 20 years, and he has restored it. It now has an E30 M20 5speed in it.

George K.'s Baur number for the restored car 1979 323i is A000635, and the parts car is a 320/6 and he thought it was 000685, but he wasn't exactly sure. We will check back on that one.

So stay tuned .... More to come!

Many thanks to Afonso, who wins the BAURHUNTER OF THE WEEK!! award for helping make these contacts! Nice work, Afonso!

Thanks also to Lance, VP of the CT Valley Chapter, who also helped pass along the info about us to George. Thanks, Lance!

UPDATE: I just checked the International Baur Registry. None of those three Baurs numbers mentioned above are listed yet!!!

    http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...6#post22361496

So it appears that we have Three New Previously Unknown Baurs to add to our list! A cause to celebrate! Thanks again to all!

I need a few baur parts that are NLA...

I also just regerstered mine as a historic vehicle two weeks ago. They have two classes, daily use historic which costs the same as regular tags, but is emissions exempt. the other is more or less a show car/occational use plate and costs $15.00 a one time fee...and is emissions exempt. I paid my $15.00 and no more registraion as long as I live here. The cool part is if I can find a set of Bear plates aka "A" series plates I can register those to the car since those were the plates in use in 1981.

The Frozen Baur (AKA The Frozen Ground) now on Netflix (John Cussack is driving the Omega behind the Baur)

    Hi Jeff,

Let us know what are you looking for specifically. There are a couple of things I am looking for myself, so you are not alone.

There are several guys on here now with Baur parts cars. Perhaps they may have what you need. In the meantime, I will work on getting a Baur Parts Wanted/For Sale page up on my blog.

Does your new registration status mean you won't be making another Odyssey to Bimmerfest anytime soon?

In addition to your Baur, there are possibly three other Baurs in Arizona. Here is a our Google map showing the approximate locations of known and reported Baurs.

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...0262f15966&z=3

Jimjim's friend (forum member) has one in the Tucson area; Toyotech reported in Dec 2010 seeing one near his sister's house in Tempe, but that is the only info we have on that to date; and there is a Baur 320/6 undergoing restoration in the Scottsdale area. Again, very limited info on that one also.

There is also one in Alberquerque, NM, several in Texas and a number in southern California. Keep a sharp eye out.... you may see or hear something by attnding car shows, cruises, etc. which it seems you have already done. I see you have also joined AZbmw forum... so they may be a good resource for you also.

Keep us posted, and good luck with your new acquisition!

I spoke to young man at the show last weekend that had seen a Baur months past in the Tempe, AZ area. He didn't know anything about it though. I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

Jimjim, if you're out there, I'd be interested in local E21 and Baur connections.
