I hear that there is a white 323 at Strictly German in Braselton GA for sale. $2200 and I was told that it needs a lot. I've not seen it personally.
I wonder if it could be the white 323i that I posted today in the WANTED: CRUSHED OR ALIVE thread! Beaufort, SC (where the car was last reported) is about 250 miles from Braselton, GA. I don't see a website for Strictly German in Braselton, GA. Wouldn't that be a coincidence... and Bruce, it would make you the Baurhunter of the Week!
Any way to get more info on it?
Correction: Strictly german DOES have a website:

Thanks, Bruce, that would be great.
I wouldn't rule out the Beaufort car connection just yet.... that ad I posted is an old ad.... I can't recall exactly but I wanna say maybe 2008 or so. It appears that both are white Baurs, and both are 323i's. Within about 250 miles of each other. You never know.... but you definitely have me curious to find out.
Nice find, btw.
Here is their website:

Hi Bruce,
I talked to Strictly German in Braselton just now. The guy said he has an E30 TC2 Baur. So it is definitely not the car from Beaufort, SC. We are going to award you the Baurhunter of the Week Award anyway for the effort and the heads up. Your check is in the mail.
BTW, he said some guy was in there yesterday looking to buy it.... I asked if that fella's name was Bruce, but he couldn't say for sure ..... he thought he might have been driving an E46, 'or something'.
Thanks again.

Don't mean to hijack this thread but I have a set of rear side windows for a 80-81 Baur I would like to get rid of. I've sold and given away many of the parts off this Baur to people on this forum. Not looking for much in the way of money for these - just want them to go to someone who can use them. Also, if anyone knows where a 320/6 manifold may be for sale, I'd appreciate the heads up.
Thanks, Steve.
No problem, happy to hear from you. Do you have a Baur currently ..... or have you had one recently? If so, as you can see from this thread, we are trying to identify and locate all the Baurs in the US. And we would like to include your information: Baur number, VIN number, color, engine, etc.
Here is a Google map of the Baurs found so far:
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?hl=en...0262f15966&z=3
There are a number in the Southeast USA area, but I don't think we have any in Charleston. Yet.
Please also check out my Baurspotting blog.... it is brand new, and I do hope to be able to a way for Baur owners to share parts, technical info, etc. When I find a way to do that, I'd be happy to post your windows to help them find a new home.

Also, please check out the WANTED: CRUSHED OR ALIVE thread.... it features a Baur last seen in Beaufort, SC a while back. Ever hear of it?
Welcome aboard!

Tom, the car I had is gone. It is on Jeroen's list in the 1st post on this thread as #72565 - Michael Baur's personal car. It was not wrecked but was very rusty. The PO disassembled the car to 'restore' it and left it sitting for years in his back yard (as pictured in Jeroen's list). I sent it to the crusher before I found out its history.
Steve.
Thanks for the info, Steve. There are a number of really interesting stories on this thread, and this is one of them. You have probably seen the posts by conkitchen on page 1 of this thread.... in relation to the very same car.
TC1 72565 lives on as a phoenix!

Tom & Jeroen,
Thanks to the forum member Steve C. I have the tags from this car. Sadly it was beyond repair and went to the crusher. I have taken on the endeavor to resurrect the car with a donor body. Seen in the image. Some of you will recall this “donor” gem on ebay a while back. It came with no BAUR identification due in part to the front end having been completely replaced. The only remaining evidence of ever having been a real TC1 (non 323) was some of the euro parts, roof assembly, plus the two rivet holes for the euro spec ID tag (not baur tag) on the passenger side were evident. Otherwise, the VIN comes up as a 1979 US model.
So for those of you tracking the whereabouts, here is an update. ;-)
Here is how it is shaping up. Rubinrot is a good color to be risen out of the ashes

Great stuff fellas, I love it. And while we do live in a Global Village, it is also a small world! So those windows that you have for sale have a connection to the project that conkitchen is working on.
I also think that when this sort of thing happens.... i.e., traces and references to what we may think are 'new' cars turn out to be cars that we have already located... I think that is a sign that we are getting closer to our goal: it is getting harder and harder to find 'undiscovered ' Baurs. We may be approaching the point where we have found most of the extant Baurs in the US. We haven't actually located and identified them yet, of course, so there is a lot of work still to be done. But, we have gotten at least SOME info on a heck of a lot of cars.... great work, everyone!
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

I found this today in an old email... from about two years ago (January 2009). I had forgotten all about it.
Scott, I am pretty sure this is your car:

1982 323 TC Baur 5 speed M-tecnic, IE springs Super sprint, Recaro, Zender, Euro bumpers, Clean title also and low miles $2500.
Both cars need work, I will take offers as a pair also."
It was in West Chester, PA at the time. Owner's name was Dan, and I still have his number, to verify if need be.
Let me know what you think... otherwise it is a new find--- I am 99% sure it is yours, though.

Hi Harry,
I have done some checking, and I can't find anything on Lawrence Charlemagne's car, unless he bought that 318A (Baur # 71475) that eighteenwheelerbob was selling on Long Island. Can't tell what model his car is from the pics, although it looks like a beauty!
Please send along whatever info you have on it and I will add it to the map, etc. Baur number? Is he listed with the International Baur Registry? I don't see anything that looks like it in Jeroen's US Baur pics, either.
A New Find, Harry??? Potential Baurhunter of the Week Award in this for ya, buddy!
Which, if accompanied by a few bucks, will get you a coffee at any Starbucks!
Thanks, Harry.
BTW, have you checked out that Italian E21 site yet? Pics of the First E21 Baur.

I am struck by the back drop to the 2002 pic.... it seemed somehow familiar, and......
BINGO! I knew I had seen it somewhere recently!
This pic was taken at Lime Rock Park CT. That is my back yard!!! Sunday in the Park Vintage Fall Festival on Labor Day weekend 2010.
I wonder if Lawrence Charlemagne was there the same day this Mystery Baur was there!! Can he shed any light on this car? That would be an extraordinary stroke of luck!

While searching through my old emails just now, I came across a 320/6 in Michigan owned by Brian, with whom I corresponded on the yahoo E21 digest last April about the mystery white Baur in Beaufort, SC. I went to add Brian's Baur to the Baur map, and discovered that it was already there, from an E21.tricord post, under the name "bcliikala".... which is Brian.
His car looks like a beauty. I will try to contact him again and invite him here.

I have a 1981 BMW 323i Baur that I am selling. I bought this car here, as a non-runner and was hoping to use it as a week-end/grocery-getter. I have replaced the in-line fuel pump, accumulator and filter. The tanks were emptied and intank screen was cleaned. I bought a new battery, cleaned the WUR, replaced o-rings in the pressure regulator, replaced the cold start injector and cleaned the auxillary air pump. The car does start and idle, but is not a runner yet. I think it would be a easy fix for someone more knowledgable about K-Jet. In addition the car has two Recaro seats and an IS steering wheel. No radio, no air, nos ps. All the Baur pieces are intact including the targa top. The car is a 5-speed and shifts fine. Turbine wheels, fair rubber. Needs a little more TLC..I paid 1200 and have spent over $2k so far. ...price is $1800 as is or $1500 with original seats/wheel...
Location: Meyerland

I did some tracking on this car... I found an old post from 2005, from Euro Trash MAX, referencing two Baurs that he owned. I was able to contact him and he responded that he sold the 70868 to mtthompson of this forum. I contacted mtthompson, and he has since moved and sold the car to Jan Bellan in Belgium. He thinks Jan may have parted it or scrapped it. The bottom line is.... 70868 is no longer a US Baur.
Ok, one down....
I did a brief update, with a link to some pics, on my blog:

I don't know how many are following the "1982 Deitel 345i" thread elsewhere on this site... but we may have found some new info on the #471 Baur widebody that has been the subject of some discussion over there. The owner, member 'vev', originally thought that it may be a Dietel Baur, but after contacting Mike Dietel directly concluded that it wasn't. So, who did the modifications? Curious minds want to know.
Anyway if you are interested, check that thread.... we put our best guys to work on that and... we may be on the verge of solving the mystery. Or part of it.
Or maybe not.

You didn't happen to get the Baur # off it for us, did you?
All kidding aside, that sounds like a tragedy in more ways than one. All too often the loss of the car is the least thing to worry about.

oh man... this thread is awesome. Just read through it in it's entirety. Keep up the good work guys!!
I received this info in an email this AM from the guy at the former ASU
This is the car:
70471 323i Northern Virginia
Tom,
ASU was a company created by Lothar Schuettler in conjunction with Excluservice. I was the sales manager for the company. Lothar did a huge business in importing BMW's from Germany and servicing them. The car in question was built by ASU for Jean Louis , a prominent chef with a restaurant in Annapolis. Cafe Normandie http://www.cafenormandie.com/ Lothar would have a better recollection of the background of the car. He owned and may still own a 2002 Baur as well as numerous other unique BMW's There were always a number of rare cars in the shop for service. M1's 745's, M5's etc. He had an M5 before BMW USA brought them in. Customers were custom ordering Euro BMW's from him brand new. I remember an M6 wide body convertible that Lothar had produced in Germany. Seems a crane crushed the roof of a brand new car in Germany. So he purchased it and than made it into a convertible and added the wide body kit to it..
The Baur in question had a wide body kit, BBS wheels, ( we were a BBS distributor) and numerous other modifications done to it. ( by us) I can't remember the original color. I don't think it was white. I can't recall the kit manufacturer but it was a German company. The inspiration was a M6 wide body that we had just completed for another customer.
ASU's main customer base was car dealers. We did conversions, wheels/tires, spoiler kits for dealers in the Washington DC area in the 1980's- early 90's Our cars we featured one year at the DC New Car Auto Show where we had a red wide body M6, red Mercedes 300e, red Ford Probe, and a couple others I can't remember. A few of the local Mercedes Dealers tried to get us kicked out of the show saying it was for New Car dealers only. We were are member of the local dealer association and somehow was allowed to stay..
Someone should call Lothar and Jean Louis I'm sure they could tell you more..

Wow. Thanks for that post, dating to 1983. Great article about the 323i Baur. I don't see that car in Jeroen's list, from what I can tell, so it may be a new discovery. We have reports of other white Baurs, but I would have to search around to see if they could match up. This one was owned by Skip Marsh, the author of the article.
Vev, did you see the post above about your car? It looks like we may be able to establish some provenance for it, or at least the beginnings of the process.
Have you had any luck contacting Lothar Schuettler? .... he is definitely a Prime Source of information for a lot of this, including the car in the Der Bayerische article.
