This looks like that other ad we found for your car:
http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...www.google.com
This one is from May, 2006. I can't remember the date of the other one.
It is definitely getting harder to find new undiscovered US Baurs... I keep coming up with stuff like this about cars we already know about. For example' I just came across a post on uship for transporting a car from Estes Colorado to Portland, Oregon in 2009. Triple black, nice looking car.... looked familiar.... Then I recognized the color of the truck in the background! It is the same car posted in here by sefb222 in portland, back around page 8 or 9 of this thread!
So, we may have found most of them.... Now we just have to pin some more of them down as to current ownership and whereabouts!

Just a little update.... on the Baurhunting, including this one, in case you missed it with all the Holidays, etc.:
This mystery has been solved! We posted this pic a couple of times in the "Baur TC1s in the US " thread in bimmerforums, (February 23, 2011 and April 16, 2011) without any success in identifying it. Then, on April 19, 2011, John M from New Jersey posted this:
"Hey,

Same car that was on the Martha's Vinyard Ferry.

Thank you, John, for helping us clear that up! Once again, it appears that we are closing in on at least locating and, in some cases, actually identifying many of the US Baurs. We have reports on roughly 75 US TC1 Baurs... and many of those reports remain just that: reports. We have attached pins to the Google map showing where they have been reported, and there are still many of those that have not been further identified.
Some of those 'reports', as in this case, have turned out to be cars that were already known and identified to us... and we just needed some confirmation on that. The Baur belonging to msbehame36 is another example. That car has turned up in 3 or 4 different places, advertised for sale a couple of times over the past few years in NJ and PA. Conkitchen's white 'mystery' Baur is yet another example... turning up with Oregon plates in one photo, and then winding up in his garage in California. The 1979 320/6 that I almost bought last year has been shown to be in the Boston area in 2008, Mystic CT in 2010, and was last seen in the Philadelphia area. I am sure that we will turn up more examples of this kind of thing as we proceed.
On the other hand, a quick review of the pins on the Google map will reveal quite a number of reports/sighting that we haven't been able to pin down. Yet. So we still have lots of work to do, Baurhunters.
I haven't even included, of course, those Baurs that are secreted away in someone's barn, garage, or bank vault! Needless to say, those cars will remain elusive and hard to find.

Hi James, not sure what you mean by this... Are you saying the conversion was NOT done by Baur, but was done in California by a Baur licensee, such as American Sunroof Company, perhaps? Or some other company?
Rigmaster in NC has a car like that, we believe, but he doesn't have a Baur plate.... His plate says American Sunroof Company.
Any other info you can get on that would be great! Thank you!

Very interesting info. I see from the BMW VIN decoder that it is an M10 automatic, as Tom D posted in the other thread, and it is a 320i built for the US market. Any other identifying plates or decals, or paperwork that might have any clues regarding importing/conversion?
I wonder what info Jeroen can come up with on this one?
Paging Jeroen!
BTW, the seller has not responded to my email yet, so James, you the man with the inside track! Thanks again!

I was gonna see this car this morning but the seller has said it sold. So it's not a "real" baur?
It apparently has a Baur number (3264), so I believe it is a real Baur. Most Baurs were built by Baur.... However we have learned that Baur did license a few others to build Baur conversions, using Baur parts.
Jeroen from the Netherlands, the Resident Baur Guru here, is much more informed on this than I am, so I would refer your question to him.
We have one member here (rigmaster) who owns what appears to be a Baur, but instead of a Baur number plate on the left quarter panel, his has a similar plate that says American Sunroof Company, Hempstead NY #001. American Sunroof Company did do Baur conversions under license from Baur.... But that car is the only one we know of, so far. Check out the early pages of this thread.... There are pics of rigmaster's car and the plate, etc. This information is about 30 years old now, and is very hard to trace, but we are still working on it.
As far as the present car, we just have a lot of questions right now, and not a lot of answers. At the very least, because it has a Baur number, it is a Baur. It may also be a very rare example of a Baur that was converted in the US---- from what I can tell.....an EXTREMELY rare car! We don't know that for sure yet.... But that would make it a real collectible, in my view.
Bear in mind, we are trying to identify ALL the US E21 Baurs.... It appears that there may be a total of 50-100 left in the US.... No one really knows how many there are. Out of that small number, there may be a handful or less, of examples that were converted to Baurs here in the US. Rarest of the rare. I think it would be neat to own one of them. Right now, for example, it appears that rigmaster owns a "one-off".
It just doesn't GET any rarer than that! .

I just got off the phone with the seller of the Baur. It is indeed sold. He was totally surprised by the response to his CL ad, stating the phone hasn't stopped ringing in a week and a half!
Anyway, he had no idea about the rarity, except as he said in the ad. He said he loved to drive this car..., but had to sell. It is now a 5 speed, white with black interior. He indicated no knowledge of where the conversion was done.... So it may be a German Baur, I don't know. Anyway, I hope we cam contact the new owner to follow up on this!!
