thank you again for posting this!
After returning from vacation on Block Island, I have finally managed to post this Motor Trend article in my blog. PDF files can be a bit tricky, and I dont claim to have mastered the Art yet. But I am trying!
Anyway, it is a great article:
http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/2012/08/you-are-there-1981-motor-trend-reviews.html
Scroll waaaay down the page for a more readable version. I had to post it there to avoid overrunning the side bar.
That is George K's Baur. We saw it up at the Vintage at Saratoga.

Much obliged, Amir!
That would be Koko's red Baur Plate #3527 and yours #516! You have a very early number!
I didn't have either one on file.... until now, thanks to you!
I owe you one! Or two!

hehe any time i thought i emailed those to you. By the way i tried to register in the baur registry but no luck. can you help?
The Baur Registry is a little confusing at present, even for me. There apparently are TWO registries:
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?client=tmpg&depth=1&hl=en&langpair=de% 7Cen&rurl=translate.google.com&twu=1&u=http://www.baur-tc1.de/tc1-0501-bis-1000.html&usg=ALkJrhi1L7EZbX6WRWJkNQde825sjpurpQ
This is the original one that I first became familiar with. Your Baur #516 is NOT listed there yet.
This registry was originallly founded by Jeroen J of The Netherlands (BAUR in bimmerforums). Here is a quote from the website:
"The international BAUR register is in the idea and the initiative of the BAUR-IG-member Jeroen Janssen from the Netherlands in 2007 launched and by an unprecedented commitment constantly expanded and many international contacts and research beyond the borders of Europe also increasingly been supplemented. It Jeroen Janssen has sought not only to the TC1 but also about the TC2 and TC4. He thus experienced considerable support from various quarters. For international TC1 register is here in the past few years in particular, the commitment of Uwe Hinz mention the many of the retrieved thanks to TC1.
In November 2009, Jeroen Janssen has already passed the extensive existing international TC-register into the trusting hands of BAUR-IG. It is his wish that the TC-register by the specific type sections of BAUR-IG in the future with the necessary precision and an earnest desire for the purposes of the matter "BAUR" managed and developed.
BAUR TC1.de is grateful for the trust. So shall at this point in the future the international TC1 registers continued to be maintained and continued as comprehensively. We hope that we continue to support all TC-friends and acquaintances. The other to the International Registry can be found at TC2 and TC4 TC2.de www.baur-under-www.baur TC.de."
Now here is the OTHER Baur Registry, which is located in Germany:
http://bmwe21baur.npage.de/baur-tc1-register.html
Scroll down to #516, and you will see that you are listed there.
These guys are doing a great job of keeping the website current. They even have a page with new finds, a number of which have come from this thread or from my blog. Someone on this site is paying attention!!
I havent had much luck communicating directly with either site recently..... part of the reason may be that Europe is on holiday, I dont know. As summer winds down, we can try again.
Several other Baur owners have experienced exactly the same thing that you have, btw, and their cars have also shown up on the second Baur Registry, and not the first.
We will keep trying.

Thanks a lot ur always so helpful. By the way the other bour that I found for you at Sin City BMW is in the process of being restored I think the shop owner said it has 33k miles on it hasn't been driven since the 80s
We have nailed ANOTHER one!
The 'Baur TC1s in the US" thread was started by Jeroen on 12/2/2010.
http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...bAUR+tc1+IN+US
The Baur pictured below was one of the original 33 US Baurs that Jeroen told us about in his very first post. But we had no idea who owned it, or where it was located.... or if it even existed anymore.
72679 323i
Baur 2679 is listed on BOTH Baur Registries:
Here:
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?client=tmpg&depth=1&hl=en&langpair=de% 7Cen&rurl=translate.google.com&twu=1&u=http://www.baur-tc1.de/tc1-2501-bis-3000.html&usg=ALkJrhjbIeE80RuGEbv4QTo_V1RoQAKg8w
And Here:
http://bmwe21baur.npage.de/baur-tc1-register.html
So we had reason to think it was a US Baur, and we had reason to think it may still exist, since it was registered TWICE..... but .... where on earth was it?
Well, we have good news tonight! Thanks to Ed THEPOOLEMAN, who spotted it at a Boston car show, and Keith, who reported it being serviced a while back in a shop he works at.....
I aam happy to introduce Baur Plate #2679!
The owner is Patrick B of MA, who contacted me today with the attached pic! He is the second owner of the car, and it is a daily driver in the summertime! He is a new member here: '323i baur', and posted above on 8/13/2012.
Welcome to our Baur World, Patrick! And big thanks to Ed and Keith for helping us track this down, both of whom have met Patrick! Ed obtained his contact info which allowed me to email him.

And here:

Tom,
Per your request...
Thank you, Ryne.
I did figure out a way to get it posted to my blog.... but I will be the first to admit that I have a hard time getting those PDF to post decently.
Anyone have any tricks, tips, etc. to simplify the process? It usually takes me several convoluted steps to get it done.

[quote=1rdmanahan1December 1981 Motor Trend. The M60 may have come from my mistake as there was a lot of manual editing that had to be done and it was late when I was doing it. I will check the article and make correct any mistakes. .[/QUOTE]
and from Mike323i:
"I seem to remember, but can't find the reference now, that the small 6 initially had the internal designation M60 before it became the M20 we all know. Can't remember any more details though."
You guys were right. I came across this tonight re: the M60 and M20 references:
"In the mid 1970s, BMW had invested DM 110 million in a new engine series, designated as the M60, but later renamed as M20 upon the introduction of the E30 in late 1982."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_E21
So, if I understand that correctly, the six cylinder engine was known as the M60 at the time the article was written, and subsequently was changed to M20.
Nice going, fellas.

Selling my 1982 bmw 323i baur 5 speed manual. This is a grey market car and titled as an 1982 bmw 320i, it was brought over from germany and for some reason could not be titled as a 323i baur. Title vin numbers match car. I have been in the process of restoring the car and it has been stripped down ( I have all of the trim, interior and everything I removed stored with the car) It is in need of the rear body panel below trunk lid and front drivers side quarter panel, I have the old body panels though the old rear section cannot be reinstalled (must be replaced) the front quarter panel could be reinstalled though had been damaged when I bought it and has a crappy bondo job "fixing" the dented up section. It has black recaros up front (small cut in drivers seat) and black rear bench seat. I absolutely love this car and hate to get rid of it but I cannot find the time to restore it and need the space for other projects. The rear fold down roof needs new canvas and window though it still functions. exhaust system needs replaced though I have the original manifold so from there back needs to be addressed. This is a very rare car and needs a good home and not be stripped and sold as parts. As I understand they built less than 1500 of this model/year and they are pretty hard to come by at this point. I can provide photos and if you would like to see it in person I would be happy top do so. Please only serious inquiries.

I can't believe I haven't posted in this thread yet. Poor form on my part. I picked up this little lady. It's had its cooler bits taken off by previous owners, but I hope to reverse that trend. It had an ETA bolted in, but I'll be pulling it and putting the 2.3l back in.

Twelvizm - The car looks pretty solid. Are you planning any modifications or on changing the color? Enjoy!
No affiliation but I came across this Baur and thought I'd pass along the info. I ran it by Tom who is aware of the car.
It appears the seller is a mechanic who took the vehicle in trade for some work that he did for the previous owner. As the pics show there is rust and the interior has been picked over. The car is running. Buyer told me he is asking $1800.
If you're serious send me a PM and I'll get you a phone# for the seller. He does not spend anytime online so email is not likely to happen. I can also send a few more photos if you want to view them.
The car is located in Los Alamitos, CA 90720.
