    I just pre-ordered the game.

I got one of those logitec wheels and didn't like it. I played much better using the regular controller.

It takes time to get accustomed to the wheel, but overall you'll be faster than someone with a controller due to better throttle/steering input.

Which one did you get? A shitty wheel is gonna result in a shitty experience.

It was the Gran Turismo wheel made for the PS2. It's a good wheel, I'm just not use to playing video games with it....like Lawrence mentioned. I also need to position and set up the wheel and petals better. The petals would slide on the floor when I do quick changes.
I would be a lot more comfortable playing in the chair in this pic.

I got the G27 today. It was $244+tax. That was as cheap as it got since prices were going up EVERY day.

Electronics Expo. The price changes each day, when I got it-it was $328. I used a coupon code which you can google, the one I used was ls1015 which took $85 off.

It is nice, actually feels worth the cash.

mannn I'd love to find even a g25 for 150, but that is never going to happen, I refuse to spend that much extra on a game beyond the price.

The game is so damn close, I cant wait.

I have my wheel mounted up with some PVC tubing, conected to my E36 drivers side seat. I'll have to take some pics and post them up. I think it's a pretty cool set up actually.

That wheel is fine but doesn't even compare to the Logitech offerings.

Exactly what I did. Not bad setup, but mine needs some re-engineering.

This is version 1.0. I plan on making another one with better dimensions.

Sorry, the dog likes to get right in my way.

Not too bad for using pvc. It looks alot more sturdy than I was thinking it would be. Im assuming you disassembled the pedals and flipped the clutch and gas pedals since you have them reverse mounted.

We should hack up your e36 or John's 318 and make it into teh most awesome game system evah. We can install it in Johnathan's living room. His wife won't mind.

On another note: the Kinects eliminates all those messy pieces you guys are buying. All you do is hold onto an imaginary steering wheel and push imaginary peddles....

Actually the problem is that it isn't all that sturdy. That's why I'm in the process of designing version 2.0.

You need triangulation! And steel - cold, hard steel.

PVC is much easier to work with if you don't know how to weld though. Some AL straps are probably all that's needed to provide triangulation. Better yet, thin steel cables in tension. I have a Playseat with G25 setup. As nice as it is, it's pretty bulky and take up a lot of space. I almost want to put it on a sheet of plywood with casters. BTW, F1 2010 is a lot of fun, but lack polish.

If you haven't yet and you have an ok computer (my 6 year old p4 tower with a relatively new AGP HD video card can handle it), check out Live for Speed http://www.lfs.net/. As far as racing sims goes, this was actually more compelling than GT5. The catch is obviously the graphics aren't as polished and the lack of money behind it means no licensing of real cars.

That said, the physics and general sim-ness of it are top notch. The cars in the game seemed to handle more like the real deal than GT5 (that honestly seems to over-glorify staple Japanese AWD vehicles). Plus, you can stall the car and I believe thrash it till it doesn't turn on.

threaded iron pipe? Just a thought...

Then again, I'd just weld it but that's me...

Too heavy and overkill. All that PVC structure needs is some cross bracing. Tensioned steel cables can provide that.

I'm going to be using smaller diameter PVC as this will solve a multitude of issues. I will be adding more bracing to the next one because I will have more room to work with. This was more of an experiment. I decided on PVC because it is fairly light in comparison to other options. I may add some wood in the next design and ditch the stock mounting for the pedals. I also want to mount the wheel on wood and then use the permanent screws to hold it down.
