    Thanks again for the thread, guys. These instructions were a huge help for me. Removed the sliding panel last weekend and repaired the sagging fabric.

    DIY 95 E38 metal sunroof / head liner removal

    I have 95 E38 with the metal sunroof; replacing headliner but the instructions found here only seem to apply to glass moon roof models. I can’t get the sun roof to slide back far enough even using the manual crank; it still needs to go back about another inch to expose rear torx screws holding rear edge of head liner. Also need to remove sun shade. However, after tilting the sun roof, shade will not slide open as moon roof models apparently do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Well, never mind! Due to the wonders of the interweb I was able to find a YouTube video of the process to remove a steel sunroof from a same era E36 which, as it turns out is identical to the ‘95 E38
