    DIY: Painting Stock Wheels

    So here a Write up on how to paint your stock rims rattle can Style ya ya you powder coat loves gonna hate but the reality is if you take your time and do good prep work it will come out very nice this whole project cost me 65$ sooo on to the write up:

    First things first you need to get your supplies
    1. 4 cans of the paint you want your wheels
    2 cans of primer (white or tan)
    3 Cans Clear Coat
    400 grit sandpaper 300 is ok too.
    Paint thinner 1 can

    2. Clean your Wheel very well

    3. After they are cleaned start sanding the crap out of every part of it.

    4. After the sanding is done take a can of paint thinner and a rag and clean all the excess stuff off.
    5. Put magazine pages thin card board or flashcards like this.

    6. Put on a coat of primer. put a total of 2 or 3 coats leaving 20 min between each coat

    7. leave 30 mins after that final coat to dry then spray a light coat of your color choice. wait for 20 mins and apply second coat do this until you've done 4 coats or the can is empty

    8. After the coats are done leave 30 mins to dry and apply clear coat 3 coats of this 15 min between each coating.

    After 2 hours of drying place wheels back on and purchase condoms you'll need them that night.

    Wait, so are they white, chrome or black when its all said and done?

    Man, good job with the DIY. But like a few on the forum, I personally believe black wheels belong on taxis. If catch22 sees this, he's gonna hurl (a little).

    No matter how well you prep, the rattle-can finish won't hold up to the heat generated by track driving and braking - ask how I know

    Mine held up very well. Maybe you just didn't get the right stuff.

    Looks good. Never knew the rattle can method would work that well. I think those wheels looks nice in black. Thanks for the writeup Lodik. Maybe some black front grills to match your new wheels?

    I think a flat black would of looked better then gloss.

    but they still look nice and to the other post, I sold my cobalt when i had it with sprayed rims, no one really cares that much
