Dont be cup caking it!
Little more updateage.
Spent today/tonight scrubbing the crap out of the cars engine bay. Still have a lot to go. It had a power steering leak so I need to push it out and wash the frame rail down - its super gunky. Also want to wash the splash tray off, that thing collected all the gunky.
Here is a taste of how clean most of the upper bay is now:
But you can see how dirty the areas around like the washerfluid and ABS pump (opposite side) are. But you can see how nice and fresh the E21 booster is (ready to go in)!
Which will replace the gross current one:
And I also got some "benches" in - need to move stuff around, crap on the shelf isn't staying. I have a lot of trash on the floor right now because of T-giving and not wanting to leave mounds of trash outside in the driveway until trash day lol:
Want to drop the oil pan and maybe coat it this upcoming weekend! Waiting for an ECS order to come in though with new hardware.

This is inspiring me to do a 24v swap on my E30 when I'm done with the suspension. Looking good, keep up the good work. More info on the headers?
Nice work Jon, looks like it's going to be a really pretty motor lol.
They look like your run of the mill stainless Supersprint US spec knock-off headers that sell on ebay for about a hundred bucks. Good quality/fit for the price, I've run them on past motors with no problems.
Thanks man -
I am trying real hard not to put a T4 on it.
Great looking car/motor, can't wait to see it done.

You just have to love UM's threads. Swap looks great, pictures are great, E30s with 24v swaps are great.
It's these kind of threads that make me just say "Would you look at that? I mean jussst loook at that!"

Careful with your "benches". If those are the shelving systems from homedepot (of which I had quite a few), the shelves will pop through the supporting beams and sag if overloaded. Could result in the items falling.
very nice. perfect setup for this car

Sick thread, nice work on the engine too. Makes me think I should have gone a little deeper in cleaning mine.
updates!!!

Thanks guys no updates I don't think - too cold + holidays = no car stuffs. Maybe this weekend though!
Beautiful E30 and a very clean job. I love the red powdercoating, just don't over-do it as someone already mentioned.
By the way, what are these plastic tiles you have on your garage floors? Where do you get them?

RVS the plastic tiles are race deck flooring. My work place was clearing them out of some labs we have and sold them so I bought them. It makes working on the floor a lot nicer simply because its not so darn cold.
I finally spent some more time on this car again last night and pulled the E30 brake booster out before I went to sleep. I like that BMW has holes through the brake pedal and such to access the inside bolts for the booster, but the hardlines out of the master cylinder were a pain in the neck. The one closest to the front of the car was alright, but the other one was hard to reach and the fitting was a little stuck but PB Blaster made quick work of that. Tonight I am going to put the E21 unit in.

I can comment on the ebay headers. They fit my swap fine, and the build quality was decent. No complaints.
Awesome - no chopping and cutting?
Looks great. Also diggin the engine mounts for some reason, lol.
Thanks! I think I am going to drop the pan. I don't like not knowing whats in there (this isn't my original motor or anything) and I'd like to zap the oil pump nut just in case. I think red fort he pan... or maybe black. bah.
