    Block deck, just how clean?

Im prepping the block for the new gasket. Ive gotten to the point where a wheel and a razor blade don't seem to be doing anything but there are still dark places on it. Is that good enough? Should a sand it with a fine grit? Any suggestions?

No sandpaper!!! Clean it with some carb cleaner, dry it, and scrape with your fingernail. If you can't feel the spots, they are fine. You could use scotchbrite or similar on trouble spots, but be very gentle. Don't just scotchbrite the whole thing like crazy.

    Wire wheel? Oh boy.

3M Roloc disk. You're not decking the thing, just cleaning the junk off of it. Its going to be stained. Here's a pic of a fly cut block. This was decked, you can still see the crap on it.
