The second generation X3 has more-cohesive styling that's complemented by the M Sport package. Though the new X3 is larger, the use of aluminum has kept weight comparable with the outgoing model. The base xDrive28i model has a 240-hp, 3-liter, 6-cylinder engine, while the xDrive35i is powered by a 300-hp turbocharged 3-liter. BMW forecasts 0-60 mph in 6.7 seconds for the base car, 5.5 seconds for the xDrive35i. An eight-speed automatic will be the only transmission and the latest xDrive all-wheel drive will be standard. —Paul Duchene
