My E36 Turbo Build Part 1

Finally had the time to find an engine builder, funds and research to finally progress into my project. The head engine builder from TRM is the guy doing the entire job. He sold me on the kit and him and I spent countless hours over the phone and email in regards to answering all of my questions and concerns about forgoing the project. According to the builder, the engine can squeeze out 600/600 on pump gas. I plan on going with a turbo housing that allows quicker spool and high hp capability.

    List of parts:

    -Wiseco 8.5:1 Pistons
    -BMW K1 Connecting Rods
-Cometic MLS 87mm ".080" Head Gasket
    -ARP 2000 Head Stud Kit
    -Supertech Dual Valve Spring Kit
-Stewart Warner High Flow Water Pump
-Factory S52 Crankshaft w/Matched Bearing Set
    -Aluminum Thermostat Housing
    -80 Degree Thermostat
    -SPAL Electric Fan
    -Rebuilt Vanos Kit

    * I believe that he is using either M50 Block with S50 head, or S50 Block with S52 head, not sure. Overall Displacement is 3.2L*

    Pics:

    Enjoy! Feedback, thought's, opinion's welcome!

The other parts that I need to get soon include:

    OS Giken Clutch/Flywheel Kit
    ACPT Carbon Fiber Driveshaft
    Ireland Engineering Engine Mounts
    Rogue Enginerring Tranny Mounts

Turbo Kit pics will be up as soon as I can get them. I will post and give information.

    You're a wise man (boi)

    600/600 on pump? nice
Looks like an S52 crank & M52 block

    Who took the porn shots?
Is TRM building your engine too?
Are you sending your vehicle to them?

600/600 on 91 craptane is pushing it, if I were to do a meth conversion then I can easily get to it, but the engine builder will try and do his best to make it happen. Bret, the engine builder took the shots and fowarded it to me via email. No, TRM is not building the engine anymore. Bret used to work for the company but parted ways so now he has own shop in GA. I am not sending the vehicle to him, he is going to build the motor, and slap on the kit to make sure that everything fits. Once he get's everything situated, he is going to freight the engine to me along with the turbo parts, and then I'm sending him the core. He is then going to fly out to socal to personally tune the vehicle on the dyno.

    Nice build!

ANYWAYS, i would do some searching on the IE engine mounts. I believe they have failed several people.

A few days ago I sent the same (almost exact) list to help out a guy up near you with a very special e36. He is going 3.2L with K1s, Wisecos, TRM tuning package, etc. as well. TRM all the freaking way!!!!
Where have I been? Astral projecting.

    Looks like a nice setup...

Do NOT buy the IE mounts!

They WILL fail in a SHORT period of time with the turbo heat. (think 5k miles or less.)

They literally just break in half. They are a very poor design. The material cannot withstand the heat. I'd go with new stock mounts if I were you. They are robust and won't transmit tons of vibration like a solid mount.

Just to clarify Cam, this is Bret doing the work, not TRM. The OP I think was confused a little on the verbage.

Very nice! I have a very similar set up in the works right now, I'm excited to see how yours turns out.

I was too excited and didn't read the above.

He knows you live in California, correct?

-Get the chip tune from TRM:
    -Get the MAF from TRM:
-Keep it at 15psi max on 91 pump fuel

    or...

Yeah curious OP, why didn't you just go through TRM for this in the first place? I couldn't imagine Bret is that much cheaper.

The engine build pics look good so I hope nothing gets messed up there at least.

Who is local to you doing the install?

And can it be clarified? Bret is providing the MAF and tuning chip? Do you have a picture of said MAF? If you purchase the chip and MAF from Bret instead of TRM then...

    The pro tuners say that
    91 octane needs Meth PERIOD.
    Mandatory.

lol you are funny but don't mess up this poor guy's brain. 15psi on TRM's chip tune is uber healthy on 91 Cali Craptane. That should yield 500whp or maybe a little more.

Looks like he is doing almost all (almost because I would have liked copper o-rings and stock HG, especially for 3.2L 87mm bore) the right things except he needs to get the tuning chip, MAF, all fuel components, OBD1 engine harness, OBD1 crank/cam sensors, 02 sensor and 413 DME from TRM.

    Not being funny.
Serious and I'm pissed too that some sheisskopfs would say otherwise.
So 91 is useable to GOOD power.
Definition is "good" is relative, I know... I know.

The OP is smart enough to know whats up.
Look, he picked the best parts in town.

I'm assuming you are referring to an HPF Stage 2 car which needs methanol added to 91 to make "good power". They do, because that stock engine is 11.5:1CR.

Here we are talking about an 8.5:1 built s50/52 bored/stroked to 3.2L. I made 559whp on 91 at 18psi on the dyno but will run the 504who 15psi on the street unless I add meth later or higher octane fuel. Meth is still needed if I want 520-700whp though. Much better meth only above 15psi than wasting expensive race fuel in the stock tank.

Oh and if the OP is smart enough to know what is up, why did he choose Bret over TRM?

I don't know the specifics of his promise to the OP or how/why he left TRM.

I had a feeling my typing wasn't wasted.
    HPF 2.5 is 560 on 91, Stage 3 is 660 on 91
    91 is VERY workable,
    unless your system sucks.

Craig, do you remember the s54 is a little more advanced than our motors. More flow= more power.

OP, why did you choose to stay with Bret? Also, I heard through the grapevine his shop is "technica motorsports" is that correct??

Has this or will this be hashed out publicly? I have seen a number of posts alluding to his dismissal but never with any actual reasons or stories. Anyone care to post or PM details?
