gotta get the head off first.......

gotta get one of those fancy elring headgaskets as well, to make this work

i was gonna make some .030 rings, cut .020 grooves, and leave .010 out of the head to clamp... my problem was the headgasket to stick them on. i was looking at a pure copper gasket, or like a SCE titan gasket, but their website doesnt show one for an S52...... but have seen posts of people claiming SCE does make them. i guess ill have to call them.

anyone running the SCE titan S52 built-in wire gaskets??

We recently had SCE Gaskets redesign their Titan and ICS Titan head gaskets for the E36 motors. They feature a one piece copper design with silicone seals around the coolant and oil passages. The ICS titan gasket has integral stainless o-rings that are sandwiched in the fire ring of the gaskets. Pictures and more info on the ICS Titan design can be found here: http://www.scegasketsonline.com/products/ics.html

Currently the ICS Titan gaskets are only available in 85mm for the M50 and M52 bores. We have Titan gaskets in 87mm for S50 and S52 motors. There isn't enough material between the bores for the ICS titan gaskets in 87mm. You can use stainless o-rings in the block with the S50/S52 in conjunction with these gaskets.

Pricing is $250 for the .080" ICS and $230 for the .080" Titan

Pictures can be found on our photobucket page: http://s291.photobucket.com/albums/l...SCE%20gaskets/

Gaskets can also be custom ordered in thicknesses from .040" to .093" with the ICS design and the regular Titan gaskets are available in a slightly larger range of thicknesses. Pricing varies with thickness and quantity.

Donovan and I have the 85mm ICS titan gaskets in our cars. I have a few thousand miles on mine with lots of 600+whp pulls and 800+ dyno runs so far. Donovan made a bunch of 10 second passes and 700+whp dyno pulls. Donovan also o-ringed his block with backup rings. We have seen no issues with coolant system pressurization so far. We haven't tested the 87mm ones yet. I will give a significant "test pilot" discount to the first person to field test one with the new 10mm ARP studs. Email us at sales@maximumpsi.com if you are interested.

    Thanks,
    Mike

 :kicksdirt: sorry- just read over that.

well, i wonder if the all-copper gasket would like to dance with those stainless rings?

and lots of talk about just using a stock headgasket with orings/rings as well

man, of all the engines i have built, the stock BMW headgasket sure is the nicest thing i have found when it comes to sealing. (besides boosting- you know what i mean )

for the head- you should use a bridgeport.

reason people do it in the block, is not because that tool does a good job, but because no real special equipment (besides the cutter) is needed. the cylinders space it accordingly. im doing my head, that way i dont have to pull my block (my machinist said he would disown me if i used that isky tool lol)

No. Look at some of the writeups and you will see why. The tool uses the cylinder to guide the cutter.

after some research, I don't believe elring makes an 85mm Hg for the M50/52 guys.
