How much oil does your car use?

A mechanic that usually works on my car and my mom's 318 says about a quart a week is right because of the mods I have. (intake, exhaust, Jim C. chip) Anybody have anything to say on this?

I'd get a new mechanic. I don't think those mods would affect the oil consumption like that. A quart a week is crazy! I would check out the engine if my car used oil like that. I don't have to top up any oil between changes.

there is definately an issue there. Do you think he meant a tank of gas per week? Seriously, if you are putting a quart of oil in your engine per week you have major motor issues. I would bring it to a BMW dealership and have them go through it and make sure everything is good and then take 318shawn's advice and find a new mechanic.

I just check my car every week and it burns NO oil.

    I think that's unusual.

Thanks for the info guys..I knew that didn't sound right. I surely didn't think my mods had anything to do with it. SG_M3..I'll try your mechanic...should I tell him someone referred me? Thanks again.

my 93 doesnt leak anything and i have the same mods(chip/intake/exhaust). gaskets wear and tear so that may be all you need . i would check the valve cover area, or rear main seal area for leaks. many shops can check for you and locate it i think with the flourescent black light i think, or is that just coolant leaks
